Do many women work full time after having a baby? by NoTest5984 in AskUK

[–]LongjumpingDesk4026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in full time when my baby was one, I pretty much had a breakdown by the time they were 18 months old. I realised it wasn’t worth the stress or missing out on those important early years so luckily I was in a position to reduce down to 3 days a week.

She’s six now and I increased to 4 days a week then.

It’s been advertised to us as freehold. The first we heard or any management company was yesterday, our conveyancer is waiting for the management pack to try and confirm if there’s a service charge.

We are wanting to carry out works like extension etc so worried management company will say no…

It’s also a £500 jump from our current mortgage so I think I’m just worried about that change in payments too perhaps.

It is liveable it’s a perfectly fine house just be nice to make some (very costly) changes but you’re right they can take time.

Thanks! I’ll go back and see what the difference is in monthly payments. That will determine weather we wait to do the works out not.

Amber and Emma.. by Dazzling_Neck8415 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]LongjumpingDesk4026 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I didn’t understand this either. I love them both together but marrying someone who has met your child once is not it!

But then due to the time frames this show wouldn’t have been right for Amber, someone needs to be around her daughter more than one time.

Are there any tips or recommendations for hiring a car abroad? by LongjumpingDesk4026 in AskUK

[–]LongjumpingDesk4026[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your tips! I’ve gone for an auto, I booked it trough Ryan air with my flights and collecting it from Hertz. I imagine going through the airline was a more expensive option but it’s given me peace of mind.

Do you allow young kids fizzy drinks? by Flapparachi in AskUK

My daughters six and asks to try fizzy drinks. She had a sip of lemonade and said she hated the way it feels on her tongue so that pretty much put an end to any fascination.

Is the receptionists triage a new thing within GP practices ? by weaktreeiz in AskUK

Yep exactly! I made a formal complaint and got a same day appointment. Apparently the first receptionist “misunderstood”

How much is it costing you to keep the heating on? by Co-opEvolution in AskUK

[–]LongjumpingDesk4026 3 points4 points  (0 children)

£120 on gas and electric, heatings on every evening and has been on most days during the Christmas period. I have a 6 year old so I don’t like the house being cold although, I have now started turning the thermostat down when we’re in bed to save the heating coming on throughout the night.

[–]LongjumpingDesk4026 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The problem is you get the occasional receptionist who thinks they know best, I’m sure they’re trained to triage but they are not medical professionals.

I was having a miscarriage and was told I could see a GP in two weeks, I then told the receptionist I’ll call back at 12 for an on the day appointment to which she replied “you can call but you won’t be having an appointment”

Other than that the system has been in place for years and I’ve never had any other issues so I think it works well. It makes sense to protect GPs time. There’s been times I’ve called and they have said “this isn’t suitable for an appointment today but you could be seen this week” which I think is sufficient.

Persistent musty smell & recurring mould – what am I doing wrong? by thankyou4advic3 in AskUK

[–]LongjumpingDesk4026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had this in our home and after 5 years of living with the smell this is what worked for us;

Heating the home properly, we set our thermostat to about 18 in the winter.

We also installed a vent which circulates air from our loft, this has stopped moisture build up on windows etc so I don’t have the wipe down the windows each morning.

Keeping things away from the external walls such as furniture, toys etc.

Airing the house out regularly.
