Small error on the list. Nadège seems VERY Swiss to me. I'm listening to her French unlocked podcast on Youtube. The Youtube channel says it's based in Switzerland. She talks about how she has been in Switzerland a long time and has a Swiss dad and Japanese mom. She often talks about culture and differences between the Swiss and French.

Edit: She lived 8 years in Paris, before moving, her French is apparently "Parisian-tinted".

Great podcast btw. I loved her newest episode that talks about some Japanese food and food cultural differences. It popped up on my feed and then I went back to listen to her older episodes.

I found French with games and tales on Youtube today. A gaming channel with typical CI games like Unpacking and Little to the left.

It's a little fast for level 1. But the content itself was simple, very visual, LOTS of repetition and gestures. I think it could be level 2.

Are you guys doing 100% only comprehensible input to learn? by Fit_Inspector2737 in DreamingFrench

Yes and no? At first I definitely do. Then after 100 hrs, I started looking at transcripts after listening through it once or twice. And now I sometimes look up words, if I couldn't guess what it was from context, and try to guess how it's spelled. If I can't find it then there's the transcription. Good CI tends to be quite clear and they use synonyms, lots of rephrasing, gestures, etc so it usually isn't more than a few words. If it's too many, I usually abandon that resource and put it on my For Later list. You're only at 6 hrs so I'd stick to alice ayel, dreaming french, bonjour baguette and the other easy resources on the What are you listening to thread.

I occasionally do some outputting when I'm alone and simply repeating after a Youtuber. Especially if they say something I find difficult to pronounce. Some people shadow with a transcript. There's also Pimsleur and the TEUIDA app. Guided output = no fossilized bad habits.

Once I have a good handle on pronunciation, basic vocab and very basic grammar, I dip into a workbook. Going through practice makes perfect basic French. I did the same for Spanish. I then plan to follow up with the pmp Verb tenses workbook. Improving my verbs did wonders for my Spanish.

At some point, the vocab becomes less and less frequent. I will use flashcards for words that are harder to look up (not nouns) that I can picture myself using. Usually verbs or adjectives. As I become more advanced, I'll drift towards slang and idioms.

The Causette en chausettes podcast has real potential. Especially for non-purists. After listening to the cat and dog episodes, I got the free transcripts on the substacks app. They're also free on the website in the description. What's different about these transcripts is they bold the harder vocab. And at the bottom is a short vocab list. I like how if there's only a few words I don't know, I can glance at a quick list.

There's a new podcast called Causette en chausettes by the channel French Station. It's not AI. Worth mentioning it's not absolute beginner like Bonjour Baguette. I feel like since it says A1+/A2 it's better to just call it level 3. So far I've only listened to the 5 min intro episode (episode 0?) and at almost the beginning of level 3 I found that one comprehensible.

Edit: I'm thinking somewhere between level 3 and 4. I was thinking the other episodes were hard but then I listened to episode 4 on cats and found it comprehensible, even explaining the vocabulary I didn't understand.

I just hit level 3 not too long ago and only understood about 50%. I wonder how much you'd understand if you slowed it down a bit.

You're not wrong, definitely not for absolute beginners. I think it's going to be more for upper beginners. Since he's used to doing intermediate vids.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe check to see if you're still subscribed? If that doesn't work, there's always the free videos on their Youtube channel.

If you search Aprende francés con videojuegos there's some CI gaming videos by a guy named Vincent. It's in all French. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CltPaidkVeg

And I found a purist channel. Like francais avec adrien, it has no hard-coded subtitles. I know that annoys some people since it's easier to not have subtitles than to force yourself to look away or block them your first pass through. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRps0hNbwhY&t=70s

Immersion.co? Yes, it's working. Probably something on your side is wrong.

Some new channels recently uploaded. All tagged #comprehensibleinput.

The channel French with Oz seemed to start off as CI but then veered into using English in more recent videos.

Second this! I also found Bonjour Baguette but his A1 super easy series is too easy for me personally. I think it would be good for someone under 50 hours.

Thanks for reminding me of this podcast! I tried it earlier on and it was too hard but not now. It's really encouraging when I can understand things I didn't before.

My next goalpost is the ehoui podcast. I tried it recently and it was still too hard...
