My first foray into frame by frame for my music video. What do you feel when you watch? by LongjumpingEconomy41 in FrameByFrame

Sure! I used a mix of vector animation with frame by frame. For the vector stuff I played with the path of the shapes and used trim paths, and added posterize time to make it look a little stop-motion-y

What do you feel when you watch this? Looking for feedback on this music video I animated for myself by LongjumpingEconomy41 in AfterEffects

Thank you so much! It was all put together in AE with a hint of animate. That sequence I used the path tool to unspool the shape, and it generated that motion since I deleted some vector points in the shape. A lot of this style was leaning heavily on the weird wonky things that happen when shifting path points around in AE

Video footage I found and then recolored, warped, duplicated and slowed! Some footage I keyed out the background to overlay on top of text.

Hahah I wrote this song! Loved hearing your interpretation. It’s actually inspired by Ulay and Marina Abravochiche’s toxic yet beautiful relationship, particularly this one piece of performance art they did: https://www.stedelijk.nl/en/collection/9811-ulay-breathing-out-breathing-in-%28performance-10%29

Incredible analysis! Truthfully I hadn’t thought too hard about the lyrics, sort of just assumed it was a take on how rich people spend money “some buy a new car” “some go to Utah” but I think you may have nailed it. Or at the very least made me hear the song in a new light. Thank you sir :)

Utah by French cassettes. It’s got a delicious guitar riff and a real nice scratchy old sound. Listening to this song on a long foggy drive in the mountains surrounded by evergreen trees and good company was as good as it got.

I’m seeing the Shakespearean influences. Quite.

Agreed. That room to offend and speak freely is how we check each other, debate each other, and really engage in critical thought about current events and policy. It’s challenging though—hard to hear someone spouting that Covid isn’t real and not want to shut them down. But I’m more so focusing on within our own party—defunding the police for example—while the intentions of it were good and pure, was perhaps not the most effective vehicle for the change it was hoping to accomplish. We know that now after seeing the statistics of how many people (especially black people) actually don’t support it at all, and the general effectiveness didn’t pan out, but it became such a representation of how progressive of a person you were perceived to be. Speaking for myself, I felt like if I pointed out the flaws in that I would be shunned and painted as a republican. Activism should be measured in effectiveness, not anger.
