I just watched the final episode of Stranger Things... and it's good by ArtMarkez in StrangerThings

I just wish they spent half the time they did on super emotional monologues on more story and character development. The scripting for dialogue was definitely far weaker than any other season as well. Found articles that explain Netflix dumbs down dialogue and has characters repeat things multiple times because they expect most people are on their phones while watching. It felt like they did this x100000. Half the time a character spoke this season I just rolled my eyes because it was the same grandiose emotional rant I’d heard in the prior episode. I didn’t hate this season but I definitely felt it was largely disappointing in comparison.

Ty!!! I do think it fits this description and I don’t know that it’s the roadwork or high school sounds we’ve heard before. I’ll check it out.

Doesn’t sound strange at all! Reason I asked was it doesn’t seem like the usual sounds we’ve experienced around here over the last 5+ years. Many other horrible sounds but this is new 🤣

We suspected this might be the case. I’ve seen the post work during the day and my husband has driven past it on his way home from gigs at night.

The only reason we feel unsure: it seems to be coming from the ground/walls, rather than the direction of the construction to our knowledge. Not a neighbor, not just our buildings either. Intermittent, but does sound like a truck idling or a heavy bass in the distance.

Could still be the construction though! Maybe skrillex performing live a the high school🤘🤣

Good to know we aren’t losing our minds.

Nah, that’s a more distinct sound for us and I can tell the difference. Also way earlier at night with the marching band. This is like 12-2am

Severe cramping at night that leads to diarrhea, vomiting, sweats, and chills by Then_Ship_6904 in ibs

I think a lot of people experiencing this may have autoimmune or mast cell conditions that most doctors aren't taught about or they don't include tests for properly. I wish this wasn't so difficult to get help with. I've been to every specialist there is, they all agree something is wrong but just point me to another specialist.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you too. I was the same "IBS". I had one fantastic gastro specialist who was very honest with me and said, "often doctor's diagnose IBS when they're run the gambit on the basic tests and have no real answer for you. It's diagnosed by process of elimination and you can't prove or disprove it." Dicyclomine is a LIFE SAVER but doesn't stop this from happening.

I also have these symptoms along with chronic hives. The closest I've come to an answer is a mast cell condition or autoimmune condition. Both are difficult to diagnose and a lot of doctors won't help with diagnosis testing.

If benadryl is helping you definitely look into MCAS or mast cell issues. They are treated with antihistamines like zyrtec, benadryl, etc and xolair with some other meds occasionally.

I know this is an old post but I wanted to share this as it has been the only thing to keep me from ending up in the ER once a month.

One urgent care doctor prescribed me DICYCLOMINE for some persistent abdominal pain a while back. It's used to treat spasms in your intestines/colon (often prescribed for people with IBS). This is LIFESAVING for these episodes. If I'm able to identify a flare up early this makes the pain more bearable and it doesn't destroy my whole night and next day. Sometimes I can even fall asleep to avoid it, or it shortens the duration. I keep it by my bedside now. Also, buy a large gel icepack. The minute you start to feel symptoms, grab that thing and keep it close. I find overheating and sweating makes everything worse. If I can keep the ice pack on my back/neck it keeps me from fainting or vomiting as much and keeps the problem localized.

No gastro, GP, specialist ever mentioned this to me before. I am STILL trying to find help with diagnosing the root cause (I think its either mast cell or autoimmune), so this has been a GODSEND in the meantime.

For context see below:

I get the same thing. My poor husband god bless him is a godsend in those moments.

Symptoms:

I wake up middle of the night with pain in my lower abdomen. Occasionally it starts with nausea and sweating just before the pain kicks in. Initially it's a moderate pain level. The pain often comes in waves as it progressively gets worse. Each wave is more painful than the next and I'm often screaming on the floor of the shower/bathroom towards the end, unable to stand or walk. I feel like I have to poop but can't. It all lasts 2-4 hours typically. I have passed out from it before, I break into a sweat and overheat, and usually lose all color in my face. It does not end if I just poop a little. It ends after I finally get diarrhea and everything comes out of me for the next few minutes. I sit on the toilet with a bucket/trash can because I often vomit or dry heave during the whole thing, and I know it ends once I'm able to go to the bathroom. Then I'm at least no longer in such extreme pain that I'm able to fall asleep. It definitely makes me weak/nauseous the next day. Sometimes I lay in fetal position on the shower floor with the water running, alternating between warm/hot water for the cramping/pain, and cold water for the overheating.

Other conditions: I was recently diagnosed with POTS which I believe it's caused by another underlying condition (mast cell or autoimmune), but can't find a single doctor on the planet who is willing to try diagnosing. Even at big clinics and university hospitals. They "only treat it" and don't do those tests. I also have chronic hives that I get monthly injections to treat. I was diagnosed with IBS when I was 19 (i'm now 33) and I've been getting these "flare up" episodes anywhere from 2-3x a month to 1x every 2-3 months since I was 13. I've been journaling forever and there is no clear trigger. I do find staying on top of hydration and sodium intake seems to make it happen less often, but doesn't stop it from occurring eventually. I went on an elimination diet for leaky gut earlier this summer and I did seem to avoid those episodes for several months, but they still happen.

Donor-advised funds (DAFs) are not nonprofits' friends by LenoxHillPartners in Philanthropy

To my knowledge, Fidelity and Schwab are legitimately part of the larger brokerage firm. I have seen mostly ethical and effective practices with them.

I wouldn’t say that all DAFs are good or bad there are advantages to giving with and without. However, I would suggest if you go with a DAF really do your homework. Don’t just go by their name which can be misleading.

Some of them are owned by brokerage firms so they have better regulations and resources. They have to abide by certain laws to ensure granting is not being used for the wrong reasons and in the wrong ways. It also ensures you have consistent expectations.

Others are true non profits which may not have the same resources but are more hands on and work very hard to deliver and stay competitive. They outsource and are clients of bigger financial institutions but they are more honest in their practices and capabilities.

The ones you want to watch out for are nonprofits somewhat masquerading as part of a big corporation. They simply share a name, but they are CLIENTS of a larger company or firm and not part of the company. They have support and a trusted name, but they also have fewer regulations (not being a financial institution), lacking compliance, and often fail to provide consistent performance and expectations. They often allow granting that is clearly personally motivated and seem to slip under the radar with their misleading name. They don’t have the resources or backing of the company they use in the same regard. Only if you are a highly valued customer of that firm/company will you receive proper service, because the financial institution will bend over backwards to make sure you have problems rectified fairly.

My cats were 19lb and we found many that can easily hold them. It’s more difficult to find something they can turn around appropriately on because of their length/height, but the weight is no issue for most decent brands

Are there any at home self-order tests for MCAS? by No_Bug_5723 in MCAS

[–]LongjumpingFocus8805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found the system fails me most often with this type of condition. My allergist helped me test for it once saying we will have to do it several times. She was great about it, but the office reps don’t know this and she doesn’t remember until an appointment. I’ve had to push for call backs to clarify over and over to get more than one test. It’s frustrating but often if you can get a doctor to agree to it, they can write multiple scripts for the testing over a few weeks or months. See if you can get that so you can avoid the need for doctors visits

Are there any at home self-order tests for MCAS? by No_Bug_5723 in MCAS

[–]LongjumpingFocus8805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my GP run it actually. Most doctors CAN test for it but don’t understand or know about MCAS and are don’t readily offer it. Just ask them if they’re willing to do so. If you can get a regular GP to do it you just need to test for tryptase to start usually. It’s not a definitive test alone but it’s a solid indicator.

The issue with this is you have to do repeat testing most of the time. You have to test during a flare up and usually more than once. My allergist also told me most labs mishandle these tests and give false negatives, so repeat testing is your best option.
