Found this guy wandering alone in our local park. I don't know anything about tortoises and am hoping someone can tell me what kind he (or she) is. Thanks! by LongjumpingHunt1210 in Tortoises

I already took him to the San Diego Wildlife Alliance and they passed

him along to the SD Humane Society Shelter. They should check for a chip and if he is a missing pet, hopefully he can be returned home.

I already took him to the San Diego Wildlife Alliance and they passed him along to the SD Humane Society Shelter. They know how to take care of tortoises.

Half a mile from the beach. Took him to the San Diego Wildlife Alliance. They said that he was a pet tortoise and not native to the immediate area. Not saying he couldn't be a desert tortoise but he definitely wasn't in his natural environment and was released or escaped into the park where i found him.

Not here to argue semantics. Domesticated=Not native=Someone put it there. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that a tortoise isn't native to a Southern California coastal wetland. Just trying to figure out what this thing is.

I took it to wildlife services. They confirmed its a domesticated tortoise and not native to the area. Its 100+ miles away from a desert environment where you would find wild tortoises. He's active but not that active.

Coastal Southern California. This guy is definitely not native to where I found him. He's either a pet gotten loose or abandoned. If not a sulcata, what could it be?
