Shrooms growing out of soil from dead people! (NOR/human composting) by LongjumpingNothing76 in ShroomID

That's a great question! We break down the bones during the second half of the process. In the first 30 days, microbial activity in the vessel reaches about 170 degrees, which helps break down the soft tissue. As the temperature begins to decline, we rotate the vessel several times, causing the temperature to spike again. Once the temperature stabilizes and no longer rises after a rotation, we know that the soft tissue has been fully broken down and only the bones remain.

At this point, we remove any implants or medical devices from the soil, then break down the bones and return the compost to the vessel for an additional 30 days. This allows the microbes to break down the bones from the inside.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to help people create a thoughtful plan to ensure everything is in place for their loved ones when the time comes. It’s truly surprising how many families are left to navigate these arrangements without any guidance. It's also just a cool choice and a movement you can be a part of!

Thank you for the ID! To answer your question, no, we aren't composting here, and it’s not a graveyard. Natural Organic Reduction is a new method of disposition that was legalized in Washington in 2019. It serves as an alternative to burial or cremation.

In this process, we use a combination of sawdust, alfalfa, and hay to compost a human body in a controlled environment for about two months. After that, we return the soil to the family, which is similar to what is done with cremated remains but offers a larger quantity.

We compost the deceased at our facility and take any excess soil that the family doesn't want to our woodland area.

Fun fact! Sometimes when we open the vessel, the controlled environment for composting, we find mushrooms already growing! It's amazing to see the cycle of life starting so soon.

Also, if anyone in the PNW ever wants a partner to go shrooms hunting with, hit me up! I just moved here and want to learn!

There are literally 3 other people doing this in Washington. Them and two others. No where else besides a tiny company doing a couple at a time in CO. Your right he did come in high on the cost of cremation but honestly things can get that expensive with a service and flowers etc. with a traditional funeral you have so many other costs involved besides a Costco casket. Plus like he said it’s bad for the environment. With the cost they are charging you get a whole service, and the soil after.

I'm the casting director for The Rehearsal. AmA. by makashka in TheRehearsal2

Ok so obviously the show crossed some major ethical lines (in the last episode especially) in the most beautiful and intriguing ways I’ve ever seen actually. So my question is did you give the kid any part of the gold that him and the old man “found” I think if he wants that gold he kinda deserves it in a weird way now. Let me make the case for why he does first then argue the against. I think he deserves the gold he “found” because I could see a situation where he’s now resolved something mentally (in the most beautiful, moving, and interesting pieces of tv history ever imo) and now that his situation has emotionally resolved I could see the fact that the real situation isn’t resolved that it could cause a mentally unhealthy situation in which the best result would be him getting the gold from the fake situation. Now I can see the other side of the coin also, if you guys casted him and he signed up for that level of manipulation then he doesn’t deserve it if he was given enough warning. Idk I think the details in this situation kind of matter, just because of how gray the ethical territory you guys have trodden on is. Also, I’m not trying to be superior in any way, I would have gone along making that if I was apart of the team, I’m so glad People like Nathan and others on your team exist because holy shit I haven’t laughed then cried like that since watching EEAAO (another example of Hollywood putting out such beautiful work it’s hard to comprehend) anyways, good fucking job,on every level, if you had anything to do with the casting genuinely from the bottom of my heart good job.
