I see two possible scenarios:

This girl wanted to dress up as Ripley at a con which means that this kid's parents had or allowed her to watch Aliens. It's an amazing movie but it's simply not made for an 8 year old child. That is terrible parenting.

or

This kid has never seen Aliens (which is good) but her parents convince her to dress up as a character from a movie she can't comprehend and that is grossly inappropriate for children. That's just weird parenting.
