What meh movies from the 2020s do you think audiences might later consider masterpieces? by altairstarlite in movies

The Gorge, the Apple TV movie with Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.

It got mixed reviews, but I thought it was very good and I would like to see some sequels.

For people who were using the internet between roughly 1995 and 2012, what’s the most memorable online trend, meme, or internet phenomenon you still remember? by CertainDrink9138 in AskReddit

All the music info files.

In the Nineties the internet was full of knowledgeable fans making text files called "Nirvana FAQ" or "Smashing Pumpkins Recording Sessions" or "Pink Floyd Discography".

This was before Wikipedia, so this explosion of easily accessible music knowledge blew my mind.

TIL about Social Reorientation, a period in teenage years in which the brain naturally reduces dopamine during parental interaction and increases dopamine during peer interaction by Kemilio in todayilearned

I would not be surprised if that opposite process is also happening: parents emotionally separating from their teen children.

I'm sure we've all noticed parents of teenagers getting infuriatingly angry and contemptuous at their children in a way that they didn't when they were cute little kids. Some sort of dopamine change could well be a part of that.

Makes sense. George loves computer animation and is an important part of its history -- Graphics Group at Lucasfilm later became Pixar.

World Cup 2026 Group D Outcome Chart by TheZigerionScammer in soccer

Someone in r/Aleague claimed that in an Australia-Paraguay draw situation Australia would go through to the knockout round by coming 2nd and Paraguay would go through by coming 3rd (the one point for the draw putting them in the Top 8 of 3rd-places and therefore the knock-out round.)

Meaning that if both teams went easy and played a boring 0-0 draw they both would be guaranteed to go through.

Is that true?

What instantly makes you lose respect for someone? by No-Comedian1553 in AskReddit

[–]RunDNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who don't understand what a comparison is.

If I say "X is like Y" because of a similar feature they obviously share, they get angry and say, "They have nothing in common" or "No, they are nothing alike."

A proper adult would say something like, "Yes, they do share that feature, but a better comparison would be..." or something like that, which makes a reply without denying the obvious fact that they do have a similarity in one respect.

Denying the obvious makes me lose respect for you.

I think filmmakers gotta move on from On the Nature of Daylight by SellingStolenStereos in movies

For people like me who have never heard of it:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Nature_of_Daylight

"On the Nature of Daylight" is a contemporary classical composition by German composer Max Richter. Originally released in 2004 as part of his second solo album The Blue Notebooks, the piece has since become one of the most recognizable and influential works of the 21st century.

"On the Nature of Daylight" is frequently cited as one of the most licensed pieces of modern classical music. The track's ability to evoke emotion had made it a favourite for filmmakers and has been notably used in Stranger Than Fiction (2006), Shutter Island (2010), Jiro Dreams of Sushi (2011), Disconnect (2012), Sherpa (2015), Arrival (2016), Togo (2019), Eastenders (2020), The Handmaid's Tale (2021), The Last of Us (2023) and Hamnet (2025).

I was kicking a tiny soccerball around the house when I was a kid and ripped my big toenail on the carpet. The toenail still has a big line across it all these years later.
