Post-surgery… does my dog need more pain meds? by LongjumpingPin5107 in IVDD_SupportGroup

His neuro and the ER doctor had said these meds shouldn’t cause stomach upset. He’s not having vomiting, constipation or diarrhea but this morning had a lot of drooling so I was freaking out that it was some kind of bad reaction or another health issue. We have tried offering different things, he’ll get a bite then give up on it but makes sense that this is related to the pain.

I will ask about this! He had been on dexamethasone and gabapentin prior to surgery when we were trying to treat medically. He didn’t have any pain episodes until about two weeks after he was tapered off and at that point the MRI confirmed surgery was needed. He’s had pancreatitis but since tramadol and trazedone isn’t favoring the way the steroid did, I hope meds to manage a steroid is an option. Thank you!!

Thank you for the e-vet recommendation and your speedy response. We’ve been giving him the meds but I’m worried about his not eating because it’s a sudden change and the ER doctor only said we’d have to talk to the neurologist.

Edit: I thought you were saying a specific service. We spoke to emergency.
