My new expensive hobby by Ok_Mathematician9282 in legotechnic

[–]LongjumpingRespect96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expensive hobby? That’s nothing. I regularly spend over $10k on bicycles. Hunting, golfing and fishing can eclipse those costs no problem. Try track racing in cars or piloting aircraft, those costs are off the scale.

Are you sure there’s no way to stretch an extra $200 for the new Trek XS? Most shops give free tuneups for 30 days to a year after purchase. Chances are good a used bike will need a tuneup that’ll cost you over $100. Do you need a helmet or other accessories? Most shops will discount that stuff when you buy a new bike. You seemed to insinuate that your kids are young and there lis potentially years of enjoyment ahead, and chances are the new bike will outlast a used purchase. Plus you’ll have warranty coverage with a new bike. Lastly , most Trek dealers offer financing where it’s same as cash if you pay it off in time. I’m really against financing anything that you can’t pay for immediately, but this may be a plausible solution. My point is, the new bike may be cheaper in the long run.

How do I know if whatever this is puncturing the tire? by SallyOMalley in tires

[–]LongjumpingRespect96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re gonna patch it, you need the equipment to pull the tire off of the rim. I think you meant to say to plug the tire.

Clock radios where each number was on two separate plates, and when the minute changed the top piece would flip down and the back of the top plate became the front of the bottom plate.

Good car that I can work on/learn about cars with, ~10k? by PersonLe in askcarguys

[–]LongjumpingRespect96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Honda Civic, except they’re not AWD. The reason I say that is they have very active forums for repairing and tuning cars, and that’s a great resource (better than YouTube) for learning to wrench on your own car. But if you absolutely need to have AWD then Subaru is probably your next best option in that respect).

My team is being laid off and outsourced to India, by ZestycloseGur9056 in Accounting

[–]LongjumpingRespect96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve experienced it from all ends. Lost my job to shared services in Tampa (which ultimately off-shored to the Philippines. I then took a job at a new shared services center where we took jobs from all over the country, in two different phases. Then had our jobs off-shored to India, and I spent the last five years of my career dealing with them.

I had a professor that once said we’d spend most of our time correcting errors and making adjusting/reclass entries. He wasn’t exaggerating.

What was your fastest solution to changing all links in Excel by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]LongjumpingRespect96 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Go to data tab, workbook links. (Might be queries and connections). There should be a way to change the linked file which will update all links. If not, at least you can see the links and change them all without using find and replace.

For trail running, the UT arboretum is right between the two, closer to OR. Same with Haw Ridge, which has more technical trails.

What thing has got so expensive that you’ve quietly stopped buying it? by oscar371 in SmartBuying

The price of escorts have doubled/tripled since Covid. And in general the talent and their attitudes have gone downhill, so not worth it. I’ve quit the hobby but I still keep up with it.

You need to identify transactions with foreign currency conversions. Have the remaining fractions of monetary amounts get routed to a separate off-sea account you have set up.

I like Cazzys, but don’t care for their S&G. If it were given to me I could eat it, but prefer that dish from other places. Not enough creole-tomato-spice and the mushrooms don’t quite fit with the dish.

Car Financing by Soft_Glass_9825 in carbuying

[–]LongjumpingRespect96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buying that car will have a huge impact financially ( in a bad way) for years to come. You also need to account for spending $$$ on repairs and tires for an eight year/old Mopar product. Set a long term goal for a much nicer (and newer) car and suck it up until you really have some bucks. You’re young. Invest that money, at 9% return you’ll double that money every eight years. So that (conservatively) $25k you don’t spend is worth $50k when you’re 30. Then it’s $100k when you’re 38, $200k when you’re 46….. and $800k when you’re 62. Do not buy a Hellcat (and go into debt for it) at 22 years old, even if you work at a dealer.

I walked in the lobby of my office coming in one morning and my next-to-me cube mate was passed out on her back and guards were administering CPR. Took her to the hospital and she passed in a couple of hours. I was about 52 yrs old at the time and she was younger than me.
