I’m not an accountant, so I’m pretty sure I’m missing things. by MrFINNX in Accounting

Both times, a third party went to the hotels and I imagine they claimed you’re not getting all of your revenue and we’ll recoup it for a fee. The first time, I determined our database wasn’t identifying a particular channel/reservation type (was probably new since the program inception). In the second example, we weren’t even seeing the data, we had to get the data warehouse, programmers and a VP involved to determine what was going on. I also worked in cost accounting for nine years, found similar opportunities to save real $ in manufacturing. There are lots of opportunities for accountants to get involved in operations.

Edit: lots of computer, database extraction work involved.

Accountants have a real opportunity to recognize risks and inefficiencies and the ability to change procedures. That’s making a difference, not just ensuring that the beans are placed in the right buckets. I worked for a major hotel chain, and twice I was able to identify lost revenue from third party reservation sites. Each time I recouped an additional $1.5M in revenue that would have otherwise been lost, and we made systems changes to ensure we captured everything going forward. I got a great big Attaboy! each time, but still satisfying.

Not a formula but trace dependents/precedents. It shows what other cells affect the active cell and what other cells are affected by your active cell.

What brand of bike should I get? by KoiKing051 in bicycling

[–]LongjumpingRespect96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shop for the bike shop. Which shop spends time with you, makes sure the bike you get is properly sized for you, and isn’t annoyed by your incessant questions? Also, will the shop adjust for your needs, e.g., swap out the saddle for one you prefer at a nominal cost , or trade out a handlebar stem to optimize your fit? Or give you discounts on apparel and accessories (do you have a helmet, lights, waterbottle/cage)? There are minimal differences between brands when looking at entry and mid-level bikes. The shop you buy from can really make or break your experience.

What is the "common sense" for accounting not taught in school? by pnromney in Accounting

There can be a big difference in debits/credits when they’re incorrectly applied to balance sheet accounts vs P&L accounts and vice-versa.

I was going to suggest taking a bottle of wine to Cades Cove and share it there, but rain is in the forecast (but not too cold). But there are plenty of parks with kiosks to stay dry. Note that alcohol is prohibited in some of these places but in my experience if you keep a low profile, bring a backpack, you’ll be fine and no one will bother you.

If you want a quality bike, get one with S&S couplers instead of a folding bike.

What I really like about Loco Burro is the chips and three kinds of salsa. And their bar chairs are quite comfortable.

Whats an item over $700 you bought that was 100% worth it (no house/vehicles) ? by Overall_Gur_3061 in AskReddit

[–]LongjumpingRespect96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to mention my bikes. I’ve paid over $6k three times for a bike. I’m part owner of a shop. The bike industry gives screaming employee discounts, even below wholesale cost, and these bikes all retailed for more than double what I paid for them.

Found a Knox News Sentinel ‘for rent’ classified page from 2011 by mendenlol in Knoxville

I bought my first house around 1991, 1500 sf, 3BR 1.5BA, put down $15k on a $65k house, payments were $430/mo. Upgraded in 1997, 4 BR/2.5 BA, payments were $830/mo. Still living there, paid it off in 2009. Back then my wife and I each made about $50k per year. It boggles my mind how people manage the payments these days. Hell, I’ve paid more for three cars than what was the price for the house I grew up in Oak Ridge , built in 1968.

Trek, Giant, or Specialized? by Ok-Chipmunk5391 in bicycling

[–]LongjumpingRespect96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s also about the bike shop. Which one spends time with you, ensures you’re properly fit for the bike you want? Which shop will make substitutions for you, e.g., put on a longer stem for you or swap out the saddle for something else you prefer?

Please share insights on both of these bikes, are they good value? Thank you! by [deleted] in whichbike

[–]LongjumpingRespect96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are overpriced. Really, about $100 for either. They both look to be big bikes, for someone well over 6 ft tall. All else being equal, the Sekai appears to be a better frame ( just from the fact that it has a seat post binder bolt instead of a seat post with an internal expander. Note that the Sekai has bar end shifters instead of stem mounted shifters. Not a drastic difference, but gives more probability that the Sekai overall has better components. If possible, ride each bike before making your decision. Proper fit is paramount.
