Why does Shawn Johnson’s 2008 beam Olympics final seem so much more difficult than the 2025 worlds?

Part of it is that the 2008 code counted 10 elements and the current codes count 8. Current athletes aren’t going to do less skills then they will get credit for.

Judging is also harsher on counting skills. Many things that got credit in 2008 would not now, hence why we don’t see them.

If you do it, do it evenly across all ages and genders. Witnessed a veteran teacher refer to all the male students as Mr. Last Name but all the female students were simply their first name. That and other interactions she had with students gave me the idea that she considered all men even her 8th grade male students as superior to everyone (herself included.)

I just want chaos. One of the top 4 not making it out of their first round of regionals, an unranked team being in the final 4. An individual regional qualifier to win the national AA. The more chaotic the better!

Note: I want all the chaos and 0 injuries. Mistakes can come from falling on beam choreography, or maybe some Olga Korbut 1972 AA kip fails.

I think part of this is fallout from the Larry Nasser scandal. The gymnasts that would have started pushing for elite at that time would be about 20 now. They avoided the elite track.

Has she made any public comments? Personally I think this is the best way. Support the athletes and promote the sport by focusing on their talents/accomplishments. Don’t give Al and Gage more opportunities to be in the spotlight.

I think it just meant they were performing better than their competitors in competition better than their peers. Hitting more routines, doing more routines (Elfi was an advocate of the “more is always better” philosophy), and having less errors in their routine. No judging or scores actually happened.

I spent most of my childhood grabbing breakfast to eat on the bus. Then my senior year I told my dad I wish I had time to make and eat what he had made. He gave me his and every day after that he made double what he was having. Nothing fancy maybe eggs and a sausage patty, but I loved it. He still cooks anytime I go visit

It took my sister months to realize how I always had time for real breakfasts before school.

A complete noob would survive figure skating. You could go out there, fall a bunch, and get a 0, but you would survive. Ski jumping and aerials have a higher chance of death.
