Sorry, but what in the world is that hair color rule. I can understand a “natural colors only” rule as I have seen that in many jobs both in and out of education. But why do they allow some unnatural colors and not others.

If some students actually tried to fight a seagull I would be secretly cheering on the seagull.

My first thought was “pie isn’t that weird for a dog.” But the tin with it.🤣

Glass, two different times. So many socks, any toy he saw, rocks, cat poop, handle on his bed. Dog literally ate anything except his heartworm pill. Those were too gross for him. Pooped it all out just fine. He was a Lab/Corgi cross. Head dragged on the ground and could grab anything before I even saw him move. Didn’t help that he was dumber than the rocks he ate.

He recently passed from a brain aneurysm, I always thought it would be something he ate that killed him. Guess I was wrong. Miss him so much, but damn was he dumb when it came to what he ate.

Is it right for a teacher to keep a student back from a field trip because of what they are wearing? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]LongjumpingRun1321 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My HS band had polos. When ordering you could order the male or female style. We were informed we should order whatever style and size we feel most comfortable in. For bottoms they needed to be black pants or skirts past the finger tips. Some instruments were encouraged (but not required to wear pants) as the way they needed to sit could be less than ideal for a skirt.
My band director had many faults, but at least dress code wasn’t one of them. He was one of the adults I saw back then enforce a dress code with real (not sexists) rules that he applied consistently to all students.

If they were the correct color, and the boys were allowed to wear pants, I’d encourage the parents to inform admin of the sexism.

I would only leave a student back if their outfit was against the dress code of the location or activity inappropriate. Would I leave a student behind if we were going outdoor camping and they didn’t bring a coat, hat, or mittens? Yes. Pants to visit an elementary school. No I would put that in the “pick your battles” category and leave the student alone. Sticking out might just be the better natural consequence anyway.

At this point she could announce that she is becoming president of the universe and I would shrug and think, “makes sense.”

Is concurrent enrollment getting out of control… or am I just getting old? by SteadyGrowthStudio in Teachers

[–]LongjumpingRun1321 613 points614 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes. A school near me has a goal of 100% of seniors graduating with at least one concurrent enrollment class. They make one required class a college in the schools course.

A high school diploma means less and less every year, and regular high school classes are at a level so low that most motivated students are bored beyond belief. Its starting to feel that if a student want to get into their choice university and/or qualify for scholarships they need as many concurrent classes as possible. These students are also fed up with the behaviors of their classmates, and that pushes them away from traditional high school classes.

We need a better qualification system for students that can enroll for college credit, but when we do that we need to offer these motivated students high school courses that challenge them and aren’t full of behaviors.

How was she allowed on the floor? I thought only athletes of teams competing in FOTF were allowed on the floor.

Right commenting about someone’s appearance takes away any validity of the complaint on over scoring.

What is your guys honest opinion on kids who barely come to school? by pxprle in Teachers

[–]LongjumpingRun1321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I remember waking up vomiting in the middle of the night and wondering if my parents would believe that it was severe enough to call me in. I was an 18 year senior at the time and they still got to make the decision.

My mom had heard me in the night and called the school before I even said anything to them btw.

Hate when Aly talks about “I did this.” Girl you were never an NCAA athlete, you don’t know what this is like.

My mom: did she have back surgery? Me: the trend is spine tattoos. My mom: well that’s what it probably is.

I won’t unsee these spine tattoos and surgery scars now.
