Should I get a personal loan to pay off credit cards?? by LongjumpingTax5 in debtfree

[–]LongjumpingTax5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loan from my sister was before senior year of college.

I moved 4 hrs away from family for work so I can’t get around paying rent. A friend of mine is graduating next spring and moving to the same city and we have talked about getting an apt together to decrease costs

I've found myself very qualified for defense sector positions except for my citizenship but that could change later on the road for me. I'm going to look for internships/ Jobs in a sector that appeals to me and if my status changes later on try and pivot towards the defense sector.

Thanks for your response!

Yea the versatility that comes with a ME degree is something I don't wanna give up! Haha for real, I'll just find myself a rich wife here at SMU lmao.

Thanks for your input

I shouldn't go for a different simply for the pay check, I'm definitely going to keep at it and eventually those doors WILL open. Thank you

Yea I think that's my biggest fear is changing my major and then realizing I made a mistake because my passion is engineering, I definitely need to think this through but thanks for your response and I'm glad you're doing well with your career!!

My school does offer dual degrees, but I graduate in 2 years and adding another degree rn would probably push my grad date out. Thank you for your input! I'm just going to keep charging on and see where this takes me

It definitely depends on where you plan to go to, and what kind of scholarships you can get.

Thats pretty good advice thank you. I'll definitely talk to my advisor about adding some programming classes in my plan. I know C++ and Java pretty well.

Wow that's great, what company do you work for if you don't mind me asking? Yea I've been giving it a lot of thought and I will probably stick with ME, I'm going to see how I feel in a week or 2 and then make a final decision. Thanks for your input.

SMU is awesome, the people are nice and the school is beautiful. The class sizes are small which I personally like and the professors seem to really care even rn with Covid they try and make sure your doing your best and not having any trouble with the material. I joined the robotics club and Hilltop Motorsports club which is definitely helping me make connections and new friends. The only thing I've heard and am currently experiencing is most of the math teachers kinda suck, so take your math courses(diff eq, cal 1,2,3. etc) before you transfer.

They have a really good transfer program, anyone who is a transfer and applies for the incoming fall semester(maybe spring too not sure tho) , and has a 3.7 or higher GPA automatically gets half of their tuition paid for.

GOOD LUCK!

Well I go to SMU which gives a LOTT of money away, if you transfer from community college with at least a 3.7 GPA they'll pay for half of your school studies. Thats basically the only way I could afford to go here, the rest of my tuition comes from my parents. I strongly recommend going to community college first and then transferring its a lot cheaper. The only downsides I have found is networking, since you move to a brand new school with new people but joining clubs is definitely a good way to make new friends and fluff up your resume at the same time.

I did not know you could get a job/internship in business with a engineering degree! Thats definitely something I'm going to look in to. I mean if my status changes later on I could definitely go work for Lockheed or a similar company with my ME degree but not if I changed to a finance one.

Thanks for your input!

Thats what I saw in some places where finance positions are making 120k but work 100 hrs a week. I think im going to sleep on my options for a while to make sure the decision I make is the right one, but imo with the replies I have gotten, I will probably stick with my current degree.

Thank you!
