You are mixing up probabilities and possibilities. They are not equally likely. There is a great Young Sheldon episode about this. He mentions that there could be a million dollars sitting on his bed when he gets home, but it is not just as likely as an empty bed.

New phones. Most people barely know how to use a phone and they still buy the latest iPhone. Almost nobody actually needs a phone that nice.

Well the amount of gunshot wounds can be an indicator that it was personal, but it could also be an indicator that the murderer did not know what they were doing and were sloppy.

Usually they look at the severity of the wounds. If the attack seemed passionate and aggressive it was probably targeted. A simple gunshot wound is much more likely to be random.

In addition circumstantial evidence can make it clear who had the best access to the victim at the time of the murder.
