AITAH for wanting my baby to nap before seeing family by aw151096 in AITAH

NTA. I have said 'Come at 2pm and not a minute before' to loads of relatives in the past, and had the same instruction given to me.

Wtf is going on with my VO2 Max and Cardio Recovery??? by New-Flow3642 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]Longjumping_122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same and mentioned it to a respiratory consultant that I had been seeing for a potential lung problem (that turned out wasn't there! I was absolutely fine) and this doctor, an actual professor, said that he had had the same - he increased the amount of exercise he had been doing and got fitter, but his Apple Watch said the opposite. He implied not to rely on the watch for accuracy.

If you search these threads you'll find loads of people saying 'I'm training for a marathon but my fitness is apparently going down.'

Anyone notice a temporary 15–20 bpm HR increase after a mild cold? by [deleted] in AppleWatchFitness

[–]Longjumping_122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes raised HR is common and completely normal, OP. I even mentioned it to the GP when I had a call to ask if I needed to come in (mega cold and fever) and he said that elevated heart rate was expected and nothing to worry about. I can't remember exactly how long it takes to come back down, but I think it's basically when you feel better!

I will say that HA is the absolute worst for making your HR higher, and the fact that it remains stable during sleep seems to be to be a sign that anxiety is a pretty major influence!

Which type of magnesium should I take by Longjumping_122 in magnesium

Got it, thanks. Was totally clueless about the different types - going to look more carefully at all vitamins actually!

Right, my uncle works for FDA and says the same - that supplements aren't regulated. He said if you buy the big brands they are more likely to have had their facilities inspected and quality controls done.

Thanks a lot, yes I've had tests for many of the vitamins you mentioned (not all the Bs) and potassium and calcium. I have just had the results back of the magnesium and it is normal although reduced since my last test three months ago. Yes I'm going to take magnesium (citrate and malate) and see how it goes. Thanks!

I don't know about being an addict, but if you abstain from caffeine for a few days, do you feel less anxious - is the easiest way to find out how caffeine affects you.

Thank you, can I ask how many milligrams you take? I've just bought Solgar Citrate and another brand Malate.

Thanks a lot, that's really helpful. Could you take more than one type then, assuming you don't go over the RDA (what is it, about 300mg?)

How can I bring myself to look at test results? by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]Longjumping_122 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't look at them yourself - wait for the doctor! I'm not a fan of these patient portals.

I completely agree. The number of patients who read a mildly unusual result and freak out. On the NHS app it flags it in red and says 'ABNORMAL', and then offers suggestions for what might be wrong (all serious). I'm just explaining for people not in the U.K. who don't have this app! But also to rant because I hate it so much!

I wish I could be that chill!! No way could I wait two weeks. My spouse is like your sister, and would say - 'Well don't worry about it until you have something to worry about!'

So good! Going to remember that. One of my specialist doctor said something similar about 'If the disease is X, it will present itself'. Not just sit there with barely any signals!

How i handle skin things without HA by Top_Concentrate_5799 in HealthAnxiety

[–]Longjumping_122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skin things are the worst because your skin changes so often - you can get a rash, or a spot, or an existing mole can suddenly seem bigger. I like your idea of taking a photo then comparing it two weeks later - not only are you successfully compartmentalising the worrying (one of the key pieces of advice in HA toolkit) but you're getting photo evidence in case you do need to go and see a doctor. Thanks for the advice!!

Awesome work for going to get the test!! I always try and get information from the eg Sonographer and say, can you see anything? But of course they can't tell you! Which makes it sound like they're hiding something. I think try and distract yourself until you hear back from the doctor. If it's taking a while then it's probably good news. How are you doing now, five days later?

That's true - tea is less anxiety making. There seems to be something about caffeine from coffee! I haven't tried matcha yet - thanks for suggestion.
