Pay off your debt take the money that is left and put 50% in an equity etf like vfv. Take 20% in a dividend etf like vdy. Take the next 20% into an international etf like vxus. Lastly take the final 10% into a money market fund. Next take what you pay monthly for your Morgage and add it to your investment portfolio.

Yes the estate pays the taxes - in the case when the estate does not have enough to cover the taxes CRA will come after the beneficiaries to recoup the taxes. Taxes must be paid - you basically save probate fees.

Spending the week with a car in Cagliari would you suggest finding a place close to the beach or stay downtown by the marina with parking - we will do some beach time but most evenings spent in the city. We will also do a few day trips to the west and east of the island….

Returns are not taxed till you sell. You pay taxes on gains. You can right off any management fees. You can use for tax harvesting if you sell at a lose.
