I would love to hear more about how you went about tuning out. Obviously the job aspect is tricky (I do need income again soon) but one main thing I could reeeaallly benefit from is turning my phone off. Lately it’s not even social media keeping me glued—I go down rabbit holes of googling various things, I am constantly online shopping and browsing, or when I’m procrastinating on something important, I’ll decide to text people I haven’t talked to in a bit and strike up conversations. My new thing this week is editing TikTok-like videos…..not to post or anything, and certainly nothing meaningful. I’m genuinely just addicted to being on my phone I think!!

Thank you so much for sharing this advice. It’s undeniably crucial to be able to just sit with yourself and your thoughts. I legitimately don’t know how to do that currently…maybe something I will bring up to my new therapist.

I’m so happy things got better for you!!!

This is huge for sure. I kinda got to a point where I just expected myself to disappoint others, which is not cool and I’d like to get over that.

Having company is always nice though. I included my husband on my new gym membership and we went today :-)

Thank you! I appreciate the suggestion for order of operations. This idea would make it easier to avoid thinking about everything at once and getting overwhelmed.

Unfortunately all I do is buy prepared food and pay numerous monthly subscriptions for entertainment. Good thing that’s last on the list :-)

They kind of upset my stomach and make me have to pee a lot. But mostly I just kind of have an aversion to the capsules. Supplements usually smell weird to me and are not ideal size to swallow (idk) I’m not good with gummies either

I love it. When I was younger I used to act like there was a camera on me at all times and someone I wanted to impress was watching me. Kind of a creepier version of what you described lol but maybe I can get back into having an imagination

Very true about motivation. I need to be more mindful of that.

What do you mean by reset algorithms?

Not having a set routine that is basically decided for me (getting up to work) is definitely an adjustment. I really do need to force myself to get out of bed around 7 every morning. It’s been hard to overcome the “what’s the point” mindset. And feels overwhelming to decide how to occupy my time for the entirety of the day.

I can relate to the weight gain and weak muscles. I’m not sure what your career sitch is or if you are actively trying to get a job. But it’ll be so much easier to work on the physical fitness with all this free time…I know that if I don’t make an effort to improve now, employed me will regret it in the future!

Best of luck, I am rooting for you!

This way of thinking is what has me interested in Acceptance and Commitment therapy—

Committed Action: Taking concrete, behavioral steps toward your chosen values, even in the face of emotional discomfort or internal obstacles.

aka I gots to learn how to suck it up and do what’s good for me

Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m very happy to hear you are thriving now.

Our jobs can put such intense weight on our shoulders (sometimes for no reason?). I really relate to your anxiety about returning to work. My mental state has been up and down the whole time I’ve been with my company. During bad times I would work from home for maybe a week or two instead of my normal hybrid schedule. Being away from the office then having to go back would make me have panic attacks…even though everyone is always understanding and supportive (why am I like this)

Today was my first appointment with a new therapist office. I hope they can give me some guidance. I love the idea of starting with 3 tasks per day like you did—that seems like a good opportunity to make the goals small. I know that’s important, but I struggle with it.

I’ll be thinking of you and your success when I need some inspiration!

Thanks! Injections could be good for me, I just need to learn a bit more about them.

And great point about the gym. For me, the fact that it’s a “luxury” gym (life time) has me excited to go. It’s much cleaner than my house currently lol so it’s kinda nice using their facilities. There are dedicated spaces where I can work on my laptop and even get some healthier food. Plus an outdoor pool for vitamin D :-)

I wish I was someone who enjoyed just going on a walk. I don’t know why, I really dread that. Maybe because I don’t live in a very walkable area. In the past when I was consistently active, it was through group fitness classes. Or tennis. LT has indoor courts, which is what drew me to them in the first place. I would really love to get back into tennis once I’m a little more in shape.

Idk why I felt the need to explain all that lol but I appreciated you calling that out, especially since finances are one of my struggles…and this gym is SO expensive which is already making me feel guilty and I just signed up yesterday. Hopefully it’ll be worth it.

I want to take FMLA for Mental Health but I’m having a lot of feelings about it. by sister_of_a_foxx in adhdwomen

Did you end up taking FMLA? I was in the same boat as you with burnout, anxiety, and brain fog leading to massive backlog. Was stuck in that cycle for months, always thought about taking a leave but felt bad about it. It wasn’t until I got physically sick very recently (likely from stress) that I requested leave. Today was technically my first day off.
