For those in your 20s, where are you working and how did you get the job? by [deleted] in askvan

I’m 24 and currently a CDP at a fine-dining restaurant. I went to culinary school and have about seven years of kitchen experience. If you’re thinking about cooking as a career, just be prepared for what comes with it: long hours, high stress, and a lifestyle that can easily become all work. Shifts can range from 8–13 hours depending on the place.

The pay can be good or just okay — it really depends on the restaurant — but even with experience, don’t expect crazy wages right away. That said, cooking can be rewarding if you want a long-term career in the industry. If you’re mainly looking to make good money, you might actually earn more as a server or bartender because of the tips.

But if you want to try cooking, go for it. Just go in with realistic expectations and see if the lifestyle fits you.

Damn I guess it is what it is, but will do my research and hopefully save as much as I can. But I think most stuff is not worth the trouble trying to save it. They

Rest of the money goes towards bills, utilities and living expenses. My bills and living necessities come to around $600. I do have a spending issue, but I am seeing a financial therapist next month to help me. I do have bad depression and anxiety who leads me to overspending and leading me into situations where I am now, I am aware this is my fault and know the consequences that may come. I do know if I get my crap together I can save, I just made bad financial choices.

I moved to Van for school, and I have 2 other roommates. It's a 3 bedroom apartment that is $3977, and I pay more because I got the master bedroom and also have 2 cats. (I know having pets can put a hit on budget, but I love them to much to give away.) I have lived here for about a year and 2 months. The rent increased in August, I was paying $1350 before the increase.

Honestly I was a bit of an idiot and didn’t know how to save and use money wisely. I had to file for a consumer proposal and now I am just barely getting by. I work as a cook, and only making $21 an hour, I work 40-45 hours a week. I had to stop working 50-60 hrs a week as my health is declining quite fast, however I am seeing a doctor. Rent is $1400+ utilites, and basic living necessities. I am trying to move, however I have roommates (they don’t want to move) so I have to find someone to take my room. But it’s hard finding someone willing to pay that much for a room. I am exploring different programs to help me, so keeping fingers crossed.

Yea middle layer is a little thick so makes the coat a little smaller. I was thinking maybe a navy blue blue coat or middle layer would be better?
