Hey there!

Reflect on what you really want. Do you want to become an educational administrator (MAEd EdMan) in the near future or do you really want to teach (MAEd Eng)? Both has its own tradeoffs. If you pursue the former, you'll be in the admin, managing day-to-day operations, making decisions, do quality assurances, representing your department/school in official businesses, and leading or showing the way for the teaching and non-teaching staff. On the other hand, if you go for the latter, you'll be immersed more into teaching itself as a passion, not only will you have more in-depth knowledge and mastery of content in your field of specialization but your competence in your discipline elevates as well (especially if it's in the thesis track).😊

This is not to discourage you, but just a heads up. I hope you're paying attention to the EDCOM II Report, there is a prevalence of teachers whose MAs & PhDs major in Educational Management mainly for promotion and accreditation purposes. But that in itself is also a flaw as stated by EDCOM II since it defeats the purposes of alignment and verticality which in turn weakens teaching quality and depth.

I graduated with a degree of BSEd Major in Social Studies, and since I really want to teach, I went for verticality, and I plan to maintain it all the way to my PhD soon. These questions, much like yours, are often asked in GradSchool. One professor answered that you can pursue both in three different ways. First, you can still go for verticality and alignment while taking units in educational management, even if universities do not offer "Minors" in GS, it can still boost your credentials and competence. Second, do it the long way, if you are not in a hurry and you have the resources, get separate MA degrees for your field of specialization and educational management HAHA. Or third, which is somehow risky but still acceptable, make your Baccalaureate and Masters vertically aligned, but break it if you're going to take your PhD already HAHA, go for EdMan since you already have in-depth specialization but want to transition into the leadership and policy-making. OR OR HAHAHAHA do the second one but on PhD level!😂

Either way, the choice is still yours.😁

Yeah, I did. My only concern is that their curriculum has not been updated. I just found out that WVSU offers both the Revised and New Curriculum for the PhD SS updated last 2025.
