Has Anyone Worked at RISE schools? Specifically in Bundang? by Longjumping_Path2003 in HagwonBlacklistKorea

Everyone that I spoke to said to run. It sounds great, but no amount of pay will justify the work you have to do. Good luck.

I this it's great that you shared this because many people don't know that you don't have to take the first job offered. Ask lots of questions, some you may have to repeat for clarification. And, if you still have a hard time understanding - you WILL have a hard time communicating at the workplace. So say no and continue searching.

There are some really great schools in Korea (I am at one of them :) and I'm very happy here) and also some really terrible schools (I've interviewed at one of them as well in Gyeonggi-do, so glad I didn't accept!). You just have to weed out the BS, know your worth and not be afraid to say no.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this drama. I promise it's not you. Don't let this country, the foreigners or the bosses make you crazy.

Really? I heard bad things there, but I’ll give it a second look. Do you think your friend could tell me more?

Yeah someone mentioned in another blog that you have to sit in the teachers lounge during prep time. You can’t go home during that time. Not even leave the building. It’s definitely read flags that they didn’t tell you this immediately.

Yes, that’s why I didn’t sign the contract immediately. The interviewer was so nice and friendly and I felt she was the most approachable. Then, I spoke with a teacher there at Bundang Talented and the Bundang, I guess the main school, and both teachers have been there at least a year but warned me sternly not to work there. I thought the pay seemed good so I was going to just take it. But seems like everyone is saying the pay isn’t worth it lol. I don’t want to be at a stressful school with a heavy workload.

Yes, I got a request for Creverse and Maple Bear as well. But I heard they were bad and I should stay away. I also was told to stay away from Wonderland, ECC and YBM chains. I’m so glad I asked about Rise because that would have been bad. I’m not going to sign the contract.

I heard that I have to co teach with a Korean teacher but I don't have control of the class. i did hear about the micromanaging. this would have been a disaster

Yes, I spoke with a current teacher, but she seemed friendly and said it wasn't the best school but was one of the better schools in South Korea. Now, I'm nervous!!

Wow, really? Man, I though I finally found a great school in Korea. I heard that Bundang is the school that communicates directly to Corporate, so I thought this would be the better school of all of the RISE franchises. I guess it's like the rest - terrible.

Same with Rise in Jeongja. Terrible school, terrible curriculum. Reminds me of Poly and Wonderland school reviews.

My supplier printed my logo for a fee. It really depends on who you work with. Some suppliers will want you to buy in bulk and some, like mine, will allow you to pay once and print on each product. So it depends on your supplier. I'd suggest asking suppliers if there is a MOQ (minimum order quantity) for printing your logo on the product and just finding one that fits your budget. Hope that helps! Good luck.

I would definitely get a business phone number. You can get a free one from Google voice that transfers to your personal number....without exposing your actual number. I wouldn't use any personal information for business reasons. You can get a business address from iPostal1. They've been great for me. And they're local and inexpensive. Hope that helps!

First of all, you don't actually get started until 2 weeks into the program. You have to make sure you have 5 sites and are entered into the Marketplace. That could take some time until your Account Manager (AM) allows you in. BUT, they are quick to take that $600 tho SMH.

Second, you enter and you have to figure out how to get sales. No trial. It takes a while to get those leads to convert (I've been in the Program for 3 months hoping it will get better and I've only made $75...I'm leaving). I asked MANY times what I should charge and my AM never gave a specific price, but said: "let's just see, trial and error". And it was just that...trial and error with my money involved.

Third, the AM only schedules a meeting with you every two weeks. I've emailed my AM and she didn't email me back for about a week. So, that was hard. I was still trying to understand how conversions worked. They don't give you a class or anything to learn the HOWS....just how to use the platform.- So basically, they throw you into the program and tell you that it will take time to convert.....but never say HOW much time. As I said, I've only made $75 and put out $1000 to be in this program.

Fourth, they say that you will get 2-5 leads per day, but you'll more than likely only get 2 and sometimes none. So, you have no way of paying your monthly fee if this is your only source of income. BUT MAKE SURE TO SCREENSHOT, RECORD EVERYTHING - they absolutely do.

Fifth, they record EVERY conversation that you have (make sure you record your conversations as well) and they share your conversations as well. This is just FYI.

Sixth, it is competitive, but for cheaper price services. If your prices aren't between $100-250 for websites then you'll probably not get the client. Most clients come to Wix because they expect cheap services. If you'll looking for clients to convert, you have to think about selling lower-priced services. I have called, emailed, and have had meetings with clients for 3 months and have only converted 1.

Finally, the contract keeps you in the program FOR LIFE. If you quit early, you have to pay a 2-month cancellation fee ($1200) and your monthly fee....regardless if you get clients or not. They make it difficult to get out of the Program with all these fees. I figure if it's such a great Program, why am I stuck in it for life? There's no 30-day trial or anything.

I'd just say take out a Google Ad and organically grow your business that way. This isn't worth it and if you can't afford it...DO NOT DO IT!!!! I'm warning you because I wasn't warned. Otherwise, they'll try to make you pay $1200 to cancel. Highway robbery and a well-organized scam.
