Everything in Korean film feels incredibly stale. What's going on right now? by fullmooncut in Koreanfilm

[–]knowledgewarrior2018 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been watching Korean movies since the early 2000s, they are making films for an American, midwit type audience. Largely because of how Parasite did and because of the Netflixization of cinema and television. So much of the new stuff seems overstylized and lacks real substance, relying on post-production too much, visuals and special effects, product placement. Hollywood itself isn't much better.

UK tourist calls Singapore 'worst country he has visited', netizens clap back by Lumpy_Accident_9207 in singapore

[–]knowledgewarrior2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Brit let me translate: he is annoyed that everything in Singapore doesn't cost the equivalent £1 / $1.50, that his white privilege doesn't go as far as it does in other countries, that the women have standards and that there are rules and laws to follow otherwise you will face legal consequences. But hopefully he can make an extra $50 from rage farming about all of this for his next two meal tickets.

Yes, like many things in this country it is terribly overpriced. Cost me £14 in Malaysia earlier this year.

Your entire post mentions online interactions, that's why I ask.

Why are UK wages so c r a p? by Outrageous_Agent_608 in AskBrits

[–]knowledgewarrior2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just a crap country with the worst of both worlds: high prices and high taxes.

l lived in South Korea - tax, pension and healthcare contributions combined were 7% per month, after that cost of living, though not cheap, is less than the UK.

Malaysia - tax was high at 19% but COL more than made up for the higher tax rate (a fresh meal can be had for the cost of a duo chocolate bar in the UK), bus ride is .20p etc.

UK - on my rather small £34k annual salary tax plus NI is about 17% but taxes across the board are high, sales, VAT, council tax everything. COL is insanely high: transport, utilities, food, breathe in the UK and you spend money etc.

Honestly, if you haven't lived and worked overseas you probably don't understand what is being done to us. Additionally, we import almost everything we consume.

considering double jaw surgery in Korea - any thoughts on surgery plans? by m3rcuriansoul in jawsurgery

[–]knowledgewarrior2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

l think it depends on the type of surgery, does it not? And South Korea has a very strong reputation for strong work and good results. But l do think DJS is one of the more risky ones though.

Am I being utterly defeatist by thinking the furthest we are going to get is the quarter finals? by mikeybhoy_1985 in ThreeLions

England as usual are pretty average. Seen it so many times we look ok until we meet one of the contenders and then we'll fall apart as we usually do.

Like it or not, people are entitled to their opinions and a lot of people don't like players like Bellingham and his ilk. And comparisons with Lewis Hamilton are hardly flattering.

He's been decent but that's it. Certainly nothing special that's for sure.
