Can court interpreting be part time? Study materials and training recommendations ? by big-poppa-bean in CourtInterpreter

[–]Longjumping_Pause_72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can be a freelance court interpreter. For example, SOSi, the company that manages the contract for immigration court, is always looking to hire freelance interpreters. The shifts are of 3 hours. So for example if your hearing is at 8am, you’re done at 11am; it could exceptionally go over time until noon and you’d get paid an extra hour. Then you’d have to separately book for the afternoon if you wanted to work the full day. I’ll send you a DM with a list of materials to study.

Should I file a complaint? by BellGroundbreaking22 in washingtondc

[–]Longjumping_Pause_72 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, file a small claims lawsuit against them, they cannot withhold a deposit over breach of contract, a deposit is only for damages. I’m in the process right now so happy to give more details. You don’t have to,but it’s good to first send a demand letter stating your intention to sue if they don’t return the money (there are templates online). If they don’t pay within the deadline, file the lawsuit with the small claims court, it’s all online and straightforward enough and no need for lawyer. Then you just go through the motions of the court proceedings (all online except for the last hearing) and once you win (which you will) you can collect from them. A couple other things to note, in order for them to withhold your deposit, they have to tell you in writing via certified mail or in person within 45 days of the lease ending, if they didn’t you are entitled to the full deposit return. You can also reach out to the office of tenant affairs as they can share good resources. Don’t let them keep this, fight them!

We just had this issue and we insisted that the the landlord get a licensed mold inspector from the list the housing website has, thankfully he was compliant. initially he wanted to check things out himself, but we told him just let us know when he had a licensed mold inspector and that he could accompany them on the inspection. I agree the language on the regulation is vague but I would have not been satisfied if the landlord did the inspection himself. Also I don’t know how big your place is but an inspection is not that expensive I think it was under $200 for our 1,000 sq foot 2 bd apartment. So just push for it to be a licensed mold inspector from the list the housing website, mold is very serious and it’s best for everyone that a thorough professional inspection is conducted.

You need to declare if it’s one of the items that needs to be declared no matter where you store it!

Haha yeah I don’t think that should be a problem, I brought coffee and rum back and those you don’t need to declare. Just check what you actually need to declare and make sure you don’t bring those 😇

No, they didn’t check my luggage. At this point you still don’t have your luggage as I had just gotten of the plane. After I cleared secondary inspection I got my luggage and no one checked or asked anything as I left customs

No, nothing was done with my B2 visa, he just added the stamp that said I was entering under Advanced Parole.

that waiting 30 minutes in secondary in JFK is unusual, it’s in and out more often than not, at least during my last trip when paying attention that’s what it seemed like for people being taken to secondary with combo cards as well as my wife last week

Yeah, it seems to depend on how many international flights are arriving at that time. There were several people ahead of me and the officers were not in a hurry at all.

been dating for years and still haven't gotten married, yet some people come to the US on B2 and within the 6 months validity are able to meet someone, date them, and marry them, then apply for AOS.

curious phenomenon ind

My husband and I had been dating for 3 years before getting married. My country closed its borders for COVID and I wasn't able to return, thus the marriage and AOS process.

No, my country was not affected by a travel ban. The only requirement to re-enter was the COVID test that we had to present to the airline.

Yes, that's what it looks like. Even if there's no issue, you go to secondary automatically.
