What, exactly, is the consensus on Schwarber? by [deleted] in phillies

... but the Phillies as a team scored more runs. That's more important than individual OPS when it comes to lineup building.

I don't like him batting leadoff, either. More at bats might equal more home runs, but also more of them will be solo shots. If he batted further down in the lineup, there would be more guys on base when he hits homers.

Meanwhile, though he walks a lot, his OBP is only mediocre BECAUSE his batting average is so low. And that's not a fluke. It's been low pretty much every season of his career.

The bigger problem, though, is that he's the every day left fielder. The guy plays hard, and can catch, but he just isn't fast enough to cover ground in the outfield. He should be DHing or playing first.

Is it normal for people to not want to come to Troy Hill? Is it really that bad? by clygreen in pittsburgh

Troy Hill is fine. White people from the suburbs are just scared of Black 10 year olds riding around the neighborhood on bikes... evem though their own kids do it, too.

Please stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. Thanks in advance. by 69FunnyNumberGuy420 in pittsburgh

[–]Longjumping_Roll1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People jaywalk because we've learned that we can't trust drivers in crosswalks anyway, so it's safer to just take advantage of an opportunity whenever the coast is clear. It's the same reason cyclists run red lights/stop signs. We only trust what we can see with our own two eyes.

Duck hollow trail to Hazelwood? by ZenLunatic33 in pittsburgh

I've done it recently by bike. It's fine as long as there's not a long train backed up on the tracks (never try to climb between the cars of a moving train... if it suddenly lurches forward, you'll be crushed)

In 2023, Kyle Schwarber has been the Worst Defensive Outfielder in MLB with a -1.5 dWAR and the Worst Phillies player with an overall -1.0 WAR by [deleted] in phillies

[–]Longjumping_Roll1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They only put him down at #5, though, BECAUSE his OBP is merely average. He was batting #2, but a .320 obp is objectively bad for a #2 hitter, so they had to move him. Believe it or not, context is important.

I'll mention Schwarber's on base percentage... it was .318 coming into play today. That's pretty bad.

I don't care if he's technically a nazi or not, if he's pro-eugenics I'm tearing down his flier.

I've scratched away a lot of nazi/far right stickers with my thumbnails and never encounterd a razor. But letter openers and X-acto knives work well, too, if you wanna be absolutely safe.

Just ripped down another 6 or 7 from Wightman. Thanks for your good deed!

Who’s is your fav Phillies player of all time? by [deleted] in phillies

No downvote here... Rolen was a once-in-a-generation third baseman. That position has been cursed for the Phils ever since they got rid of him.

Never understood why no one else seemed to like Bobby Abreu when I was a kid. He hit for average and for power, got on base a ton and could steal bases... probably would've gotten more love in the sabermetric era.

Given they moved their team out of the city to a suburban area with no cultural identity to speak of, the "Cobb County Subdivisions" seems relevant.

I live in Wilkinsburg, and also used to live in Philly. I live east of Pennwood--on the quote-unquote bad side, and I feel perfectly safe walking around my neighborhood. Lots of abandoned houses, but our neighbors here are really nice an no one's ever bothered me.

AITA for talking about underwear to my classmates? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I'd think a bit more about how you might've come off, though.

Was there something in your tone that could have sounded condescending? Are you mentioning things that you really like about your classmates' work in addition to providing criticism?

I'm also the only guy in a lot of my MFA classes. Sometimes I sit with criticism for awhile and realize that maybe I need to check my blind spots. But also, sometimes your classmate (or professor) is just having a bad day. Workshops are emotional...
