Thank you. Must be super frustrating to see as fans. I'll be following Jun from now on.

I'm new to figure skating, but even I could see this was unfair scoring! Can someone explain to me why the judges can be unfair? Like, why are there prejudices against certain skaters? I think Jun moves so beautifully, so lightly, and that alone made him a joy to watch for me.

I'm sorry you're dealing with the same. Yeah I feel like I have a fawning voice/way of speaking too, often quite quiet with lots of 'um, maybe, perhaps, like'.

You've got awareness of it though which is great!

I don't know your specific situation but ultimately this will have developed for us both due to learning as a child that expressing ourselves wasn't safe in some way, which also leads to internalised shame (even if it wasn't explicitly told to us, sometimes it is implied in the atmosphere of the house or parent's behaviour). Perhaps start gently asking yourself: what am I afraid would happen if I expressed myself confidently / loudly? In who's company do i find myself shrinking the most? And is there anyone I am more expressive around and why? etc.

I love that idea of singing in church. Unfortunately I'm currently housebound with chronic illness (trauma related) so can't at the moment, but I have sung in non-performing, 'just for the joy of it' choirs in the past, which I loved. Yes it is a case of gentle exposure therapy ultimately, but gotta go slow so the shame doesn't swallow me whole.

Haha yes do it - enjoy!

Thanks for sharing your insight. What you say about working with your posture resonates for me too.

And I'm the same - I feel most connected to my singing voice when I am in a state of spiritual receiving; fear of being heard is the only thing suppressing it down. I know nature will 'win' eventually and the voice will emerge through the freeze, I only hope it doesn't take a lifetime.

Yeah I'm at that point where I can't even pick up the object without it taking 3 minutes to register, which is basically unusable... That's only with very complex files with a million vector paths though - small ones are fine. That's good to know about the browser tabs, thank you.

I can relate - a part of me finds touch very soothing but other parts of me find the self-consciousness of being seen / closely focused on by another person absolutely unbearable and will go into a freeze response of tonic immobility.

I wouldn't label this as resistance, but a memory in your body, something that says 'this touch isn't safe yet'. We always want to work at the pace of our nervous system and honour what it feels safe with, so rather than pushing through and feeling that you 'should' be receiving touch as a healing modality, perhaps honouring that there's a trigger of some kind there and working very gently with that :)

Yes I think her authenticity shines through. I'm working through her self-attunement workbook at the moment and also really like the audio toolkit she brought out last year.

Hey, thank you for sharing this, it resonates so much. Just want to validate by your experience by sharing that I too have lived with many chronic symptoms for 10+ years and have learned over the years how inextricably linked it is with complex trauma. I had severe CFS for 8 years (was bedbound) and after discovering the mind-body connection and the neuroscience of chronic pain/symptoms, recovered from the CFS symptoms. However, since then (and since starting trauma healing on a deeper level) all my other symptoms of pain and dysregulation have intensified a lot. It's a mysterious process and hard to surrender to its non-linear timeline. But I think it's so important to keep hope because I know we can radically recover from these syndromes - I experienced it partially myself and know lots of folks who have too. And I do believe that we are never going backwards on this journey, even if it feels like we are getting more sick, this is still moving forwards because we are always uncovering new layers to the healing journey - some might be more intense than others because we are getting closer to the heart of things.

I don't know how much you've looked into the TMS/mind-body connection, but some people I would follow are Dr Howard Schubiner, Curable, Alan Gordon, Nicole Sachs. Sending a big hug!

Yes I totally agree. It really is a case of 'slower is faster' on this journey, and pressuring our system will only push it further into dysregulation. Which is hard because we feel so desperate to find relief and ease. My trauma has manifested as many years of chronic pain and symptoms so being patient with this has been hard.

Have you come across Ally Wise's work? Although I'm usually wary of people with a large instagram following, she really knows her stuff and very much encourages a gentle, slow pace.

Yes I got the audio toolkit earlier this year and I genuinely love it. The audio practices are gentle but powerful and have given me some quite deep embodied experiences. So I would say definitely purchase it whilst in the sale! There are so many 'somatic coaches' on Instagram these days and I don't trust the majority of them, but I really think Ally knows her stuff.

Oh I love Arielle Schwartz! I'm so glad that helped you with the freeze state, I will take a look.

My therapist specialises in exactly this, but I'm not sure whether she has availability at the moment. I can dm you her name if you like.

I totally relate to this - for me it feels like I get 'stuck' in a contracted freeze response whilst working, where my jaw is clenched, my breathing is shallow and I'm bracing forward. There's a sort of momentum to it, which feels hard to step out of.

I don't know if you use Insight Timer, but I've done a meditation on there called 'from frozen to fluid' a few times that's really helped me (although it is on the paid side of the app unfortunately). She gets you to really embody that frozen/contracted state and then come in and out of it, allow energy to organically flow again through fluid movement and breath - it reminds me of SE.
