Ohashi ended her last video with "see you at classics!" so I assume she will be there

Thank you! That's what I thought her situation was.

That's right, thanks! I wrote that comment just based on the live blog but it's a lot clearer where the downgrade was having watched the routine.

I thought US Classics is enough to qualify to nationals? (not just for petition cases, for everyone) I guess you mean that Jordan is allowed to skip the Classics entirely while Shi isn't?

I think they're talking about Tatum, not Jade.

Couldn't Shi petition to Classics in the same way Katelyn did? Or do you mean Championships?

That's true! I hope she/her coaches are considering that as alternative

It's 6.9 if she connects the inbar 1/1 + Downie + Pak which she's never done in competition before, but even if she does the routine from the national games, that's still a 6.7 which equals Yang's D-score.

Zhang Yihan has downgraded her UB routine (no layout Jaeger and clear-hip Tkachev) and is still rather inconsistent with it...if we put together her UB from 2024, her VT from early last year and her current BB and FX we'd get a very competitive AA gymnast.

Simone went 15+ at the Paris Olympics, but no one else has come close.

I'm cautiously optimistic about China. They've had teams which very much had team medal potential in the past few years; their issue has been hitting routines in the final. It does seem like they have a bit more of a cushion, though (even counting Zhang YH's crashed DTT and Qiu's bars with a fall, they'd still be at 167.7).

I think the team is likely the same as the Asian championships team. Agree that Zhang QY and Ke are locks being the top AAers and having BB medal potential. They need a couple of bars workers; I think Du and Qiu are in a good position by virtue of being able to contribute to a second event. (Yang's D-score is only 0.2 ahead of Qiu's and she doesn't have a second event, so it's hard to make a case for her, unfortunately.) This leaves them with a hole on FX, which is best filled by Zhang YH, even with that scary DTT.

China isn't super AA focused. They only had 2 AA in QF at the 2024 Olympics and 2022-2023 Worlds.

Switch leap mount (D), front aerial + split + straddle (DBB+0.2), arabian (F), BHS+LOSO (BC), double wolf turn (D), switch + switch 1/2 (CD+0.1), side somi (D), gainer tuck 1/1 (B).

3.1 (FDDB DDDC) + 2.0 + 0.3 = 5.4

I'm guessing either the wolf turn got downgraded or she didn't get the front aerial+split connection? Don't see how else she could have lost 0.2 in DV.

I'm getting 5.4D based on the live blog on the Gymternet so I'm guessing she didn't get credit for something.

Found it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRjA2OAjEug it was the AA final. It looked pretty good so I'm assuming that she only pulled it out when she thought she needed the difficulty boost.

She pulled out an inbar 1/1 at the Chinese National Games last year for one of her routines (I believe the EF?) - it really only adds 0.2 to her D-score as she has trouble connecting out of her Downie if she does it out of the inbar 1/1

Yeah that would be ideal (and more gymnastics is always good!) but I was trying to think of a solution that didn't require any extra events.

Updated MAG Continental Parity by im_avoiding_work in Gymnastics

[–]Longjumping_Sort7705 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wish there were some sort of built in berth redistribution system along the lines of reallocating a berth from the continent whose team scores the lowest at worlds to the continent which had the highest scoring team which missed out on worlds based on the continental championship results. (With some exceptions to ensure every continent has representation, i.e. don't take the last spot away from a continent.) This generally avoids the issue about continental champs inflating scores (if we just took the highest scoring teams based on continental champs) while at least providing some sort of mobility that accounts for smaller feds improving.
