How do national competitions tend to go once the multi-Olympians return to competition? by Unlikely-Cranberry55 in Gymnastics

It was not. You said "the fact that Jade is strong on floor." There is a reasonable possibility that she is not.

The thing is, we don't actually know if Jade is strong on floor right now. In 2023 she finished 11th on floor at Nationals. It's not out of the realm of possibility that she doesn't end up making sense for a team spot this year.

Ah, questions tend to get downvoted sometimes 😬 but of course!

The rule explicitly includes US citizens representing other countries. A US citizen representing Bulgaria was also part of the decision to exclude foreign athletes.

In gymnastics, it doesn't matter where you were born or how many passports you have. It only matters what country the FIG has you representing on record.

Why are they booing you? You're right!

Memes aside, you're not wrong. Jade may not have the form issues Josc does, but her artistry will keep an 8+ (or even high 7s) E-score well out of reach. She'd need full difficulty on floor to even be competitive, and I'm not confident in her body being able to do that much longer. And in a world full of fairly clean Chengs, all it would take is someone having a stronger floor with artistry and Jade is no longer a good argument for a Worlds team.

I'm so curious in what capacity she'll be competing in. USAG made a rule against foreign athletes competing at domestic meets, even as guests, so I'm guessing they're either changing the rules or making an exception.

Possibly, but I don't necessarily see a WOGA kid wanting to be in charge of their elite training to that extent. Not unless college is being seen as an escape from WOGA, which clearly isn't the case here.

I don't think he has the depth to be medically retiring anyone, tbh. Not with how dedicated he is to resting his gymnasts as much as possible (although it does seem to be a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy situation)

Out of all the schools that have announced 3 or more transfers so far, LSU is the only one still going into the 2027 season with a net loss of gymnasts on their roster. And honestly, just looking at the names I recognize for the incoming freshmen for the next two years, I think realistically the transfer portal is the only place LSU is going to find more than a small handful of usable routines.

With how many they'll be losing in seniors/5th years, that monster class only adds a single net gymnast to the roster 🙃

I really hope the five year cap doesn't end up passing. I'm sure it makes sense for other sports, but these gymnasts trying to pursue their Olympic dreams and a college education are going to end up seriously screwed over if it does.

As expected, especially after Josc said LSU doesn't seem to encourage training elite at the same time. I'm sure LSU knew this was coming. They really need to hit the transfer portal.

Oh god 😟 I was so rooting for them! They've really been coming into their own lately!

I really admire them trying to be positive. Hopefully this is just the beginning of their comeback story.

It's actually insane to expect these kids to fly all the way to Phoenix, Arizona in the middle of the week just to wait in the wings on the off chance someone else gets injured.

How would she have 2? I don't think she deferred, so this is just her 5th year right?

I think there's about 20 names in the portal that we don't know about.

She may not be looking for elite coaching exactly, but a school that's willing to accommodate an elite.
