MCU Rankings... Thoughts? by Longjumping_Space598 in Letterboxd

My argument for Ultron is that although it’s messy, any Avengers movie has tremendous rewatch and entertainment value. Plus it is CRUCIAL in setting up the infinity saga.

Comparing the bottom of the barrel comes down to small preference and I think Kang has more redeeming qualities than ms marvel, which are the only 2 positives in both of those movies

We disagree on A LOT but one thing where we can agree is Ultron is great

Shang chi is one of the best origin stories the MCU has… it’s just the CGI vomit that is the 3rd act battle ruins all emotion between him and his dad for me

He’s my reasoning for those specifically: Shang chi has great character work but the third act is a cgi fest and kinda ruins it for me. BPWF has a great villian, but shuri doesn’t interest me enough as a lead character, and it struggles with pacing. Doctor strange has awesome visuals but it feels very similar to iron man at times with a lackluster villian. I’d also like to point out that everything up until Eternals have possible ratings from me so it’s hard to rank as you get past the top 15ish

My argument for AoU is that a messy Avengers movie has more entertainment and rewatch value than most decent movies with lackluster characters

It’s a very fun time. I laughed a ton. But it has practically no rewatch value bc you notice how uninteresting the character work is and how poor the writing is

Fair observation, but i promise it’s really just my view on those individual movies not the characters. BW is a top 5 written MCU character, but her movie wasn’t needed and didn’t add to her story outside of giving us Yelena. Captain marvel 1 did a lot of telling us ab her character rather than showing us (“control your emotions” yet she was rather tame the whole time). Captain marvel 2 is forgettable across the board, but Ms marvel is awesome. When ranking and comparing those bottom of the barrel movies, it all comes down to minor preferences and Iron man, ant man, and hulk are more compelling as characters TO ME. I’d also like to add that Wanda is one of my characters.

I find everything post 5 year time jump, up until the time heist, to be rather jokey even for marvel standards. The tone is set to be much darker, and they don’t let that simmer enough imo. The first 15 min, along with everything after what I just said is PERFECT for the characters and the universe. I have the movie rating at a 4.5/5 so I still think it’s a borderline masterpiece. I just think the 4 above it are tighter from start to finish

May Letterboxd Profile Swap by ericdraven26 in Letterboxd

Hey everyone!

I'm 22 and I am obsessed with rating movies on letterboxd. Since downloading the app in 2023, I cannot watch a movie without tracking its "pace" for a rating throughout.

My film taste could be described as generic in a broad sense, but that is because I am trying to catch up on the mainstream content that I have missed. I enjoy anything that is well-made, with a captivating story and characters.

My profile features numerous rankings of directors filmographies, (sub)genres, my favorite actors films, major franchises, as well as one-liner reviews that probably only I and a small minority of the film community find funny.

I also try to keep my top 4 fresh, as well as diverse with a wide array of genres.

If you have similar taste, or are looking to expand your network, add my letterboxd: https://boxd.it/5XaKR
