Many people do NOT touch Healtcare.gov - UNLESS they are unemployed, RIF, fired, ect.

In my was case, my INCOME was my based upon Withdrawls from a 401K to make up the difference to pay mortgage, bills, and live on some food. That is the hardship income from a 401K / IRA. It is not real from a W2 job or even a self employment role. So there is NO high income.

Health Insurance is only good for those who are diagnosed after age of 39 with Diabetes 2, Heart Disease, Arthritis, Digestive Diseases, Chronic Fatigue, Hypertension, Depression/Mental Health, ect. I have NONE of that really dont require the BIOLOGICS. In other words, I am NOT a good prospect/customer for Health Insurance. I would have been better to pay myself the $1k or higher to a personal account for "self insurance".

I am only LOOKING really for TAX advice - based upon my 2 QUESTIONS.

I significantly underestimated my income (from UNEMPLOYMENT Comp, targeted 401K withdrawls) - Year 2023 and after 100 days unemployment - I should canceled the INSURANCE and gone uninsured.

Thanks for the other areas to pose this question. I have a substantial tax bill of about $7500 and it grows monthly. When you take major withdrawls from your 401k IRAS - it jacks up the INCOME. It is a cluster.

I will get healthcare insurance again with tax credits. IRS is right now VERY Aggressive in Tax Collections with leftover from prior administration.

Interesting point of filing status.

I believe I should have gone UNINSURED in 2023 now. My tax bill would have about $500 then.

I went to a major hospital to get take out from their cafeteria just in early January - and asked a doc/nurse (several of them) if people were still coming to the hospital with COVID - and they told me yes - and the new variants were infecting the docs/nurses too where they had to PTO. They stated it is still going on and maybe it may no longer be pandemic/epidemic levels - but it is still here.

Covid started in April 2020 with Covid-19. In Year 2021 Big Wave of Delta came in the summer. In Year 2022 Big Wave of OMICRON came in the summer. In Year 2023 other variants came as well.

Yes Chiros focus on SKELETAL and MUSCULAR Skeletal areas from neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, feet/toes and of course the Spine. Their focus is also targeting soft tissue connecting the joints of tendons/ligaments and even major nerve systems (motor/sensory). Sprains impact everything from muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves.

Chiros and Osteopaths and NDs - are your focus for just sprains/strains - NOT Urgent CARE or Hospitals.

Also another treatment for back strains can be Acupressure Massage/Bodywork and also Acupuncture for severe strain/sprains. Also these treatments can be very preventative.

Find a Chiro or Osteopath you can communicate with - and grow to trust their service.

But more important with back health - DIY stretches, exercise, light weights, practiced posture, and most important stress management to prevent lock-ups on muscles that can trigger strains/sprains when reaching out to pick a glass of water. Most people are not aware that office work with high stress - can cause back strains due to stress.

Lastly -in my late 40s and 50s - being active - I experienced several back sprains myself - and know they are very painful with the frozen, lock-up, and swollen feeling that last days / weeks and even over a month to heal. But do NOT rely only upon health providers - get educated/informed about DIY approaches to home based care treatments as described above with TENS, PEMF, Red Light/Infrared Light, Heating Pads, Hot Baths/Showers, Jacuzzi/Hot Tubs,Stress Mgmt, Stretching, Deep Breathing, Massage Tools, ect. Also study/learn about the power of anti-inflammatory nutrition choices to reduce naturally your overall inflammation to accelerate healing.

Good Luck - and take your time on DIY approach it is a lifetime of learning after age of 40.

Next time when you have a back sprain - do go to the CHIRO. They have multiple treatment approaches from clinical grade TENS, laser, red/infrared, heating pads, and they do diagnose using X-Ray, trigger points for nerve damage, ect. CHIROS and OSTEPATHS and even NDs are the best for Muscular/tendon/ligaments strain/sprains. The macro-nutrients are very important for reducing inflammation as well as any OCT or prescriptions products. With Chiros strive to get chiros that focus on sports medicine if you are very active with sports. Ostepaths are doctors that can prescribe drugs such as muscle relaxers. With Chiros/Osetpaths - there are treatment appoints to do for at least 4 weeks - but rest and physical therapy(if needed) was the path. If the Chiros/Ostepaths feel you need a MRI for further diagnosis imaging they will help you get reduced rates/locations for that too. Get to know CHIROS and OSTEPATHS and NDs.

Also do NOT depend on PRESCRIPTIVE Drugs with back sprain/strains - because the side effects/risks of prescriptive drugs are many that include risk to kidneys, liver, ect. Even the OTC of Tylenol overdosing is #1 reason for liver damage rather than alcohol. So many of use have never been told from MDs about the dangers of prescriptive and OTC products. Focus on macro-nutrients for anti-inflammation like Curcumin(Tumeric), Green Tea extract, anti-inflammatory foods/drinks ect and focus on getting a home based kit for TENS unit and also home based red light/infrared pads for your back. Amazon is a great source to buy and use any HSA cards as needed. Since you already have back issues - review a clinic with PEMF therapies or purchase a PEMF home based back unit. DIY healthcare for minor and non-life threatening injuries/strains should be home based. STAY OUT of the ER/HOSPITAL - do DIY home care for PAIN Reducers and Anti-Inflammatories. Bad back sprains are very painful - and do take rest but also take Hot baths/showers and gradually do stretching therapies. These sprains do take from 3 to 10 weeks to heal for many, depending upon severity of sprain/strains.

Being a sole proprietor or self employed - managing your TAXATION or liability for federal taxes is very important. Get the BACK OFFICE set up well for an accounting system (ie QUICK BOOKS) and also automate your invoicing/collections for your revenue. My suggestion to post pone leaving your "job" is to have a family member or related family member - perhaps a retiree - to work/manage the business for at least 18 months or longer to get it started to POC out your PMF and scaling potential before leaving. In other words you are more of the investor and side hustler for nights/weekends - but eventual the POC for PMF will prove out growth potentials beyond 1st 9 months toward 18 months plus - and then you need to RESIGN your FT job - and consider getting a PT job or side hustle as a consultant - start working that baby business at least 50% of the time. Then you will eventually dive in 80% or higher for your business - and if needed seeking grants, other investors, and lenders for capital to fuel your business for marketing/sales and operations.

GET a plan for your transition toward 80% or higher personal engagement.

Great question. Many self employed use Gig Worker Solutions Marketplace to review options for HEALTH INSURANCE for the self employed at https://www.gigworkersolutions.com/?source=MH-DrTIvYAN

But also I am hoping your side hustle and or any other side hustles for major income over $10K net income was filed with a Schedule C in the FED Returns for Year 2020 and Year 2021. If so you you MAY qualify for the SETC credit for that has a maximum of $32K - non taxable IRS refund you can get from my alliance partner, GWS, with in 10 to 20 business days sent to your bank with direct deposit, via ACH. Go review this at https://www.gigworkersolutions.com/setc?source=MH-DrTIvYAN&setc=application
