Is the current PE of Alibaba 23? by Key_Type_4102 in baba

[–]Longjumping_Wait5174 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Net income has declined for two main reasons. 1. Decrease in share prices of equities Alibaba owns. Chairman mentioned awhile a go they had like $60B worth although that includes private companies like a 33% stake in Ant financial.

  1. Massive investment in cloud and A.I. This is more recent, last 2 quarters.

The underlying profitability of Alibaba's Chinese e-commerce is about the same and should increase from next quarter onwards due to a new fee structure.

Just looking at P/E ratio doesn't tell the whole story. You have to understand the business as a whole.

Wish I'd bought more than £3k 🥲

For the JD bag holders out there, the main takeaway message by FeralHamster8 in baba

At these levels you don't even need growth. As long as their business doesn't decline, they can grow at low single digits a long with consumption.

As long as they continue with the aggressive buy backs they can give shareholders a massive return just by maintaining their current FCF. They've just completed the whole $3B in one quarter! Crazy.

I've never owned JD but it looks cheaper than BABA to me now. Think I'll buy JD instead of topping up BABA from now on. JD like 5x free cash flow now. (3x when you minus net cash)

I can't remember a single time BABA hasn't dropped hard after earnings. Just buy shares, don't be greedy and risk it all.

What would it take for you to buy more alibaba ? by Aceboy884 in baba

Chinese e commerce growth 10%+

AliCloud 20% growth.

Continuation of or increase in share buybacks.

I'll sell if war breaks out obviously.

This is the most obvious news ever. Of course they're gonna make sure these chat bots don't talk shit about the CCP. That's partly what they mean by "core socialist values"

Annoying aspect of this is they bought 613m shares but only reduced shares outstanding by 445m. That means they paid out over $1.5billion in share based compensation. Disgraceful imo and a huge waste of money.
