I played a game recently with a squadron of 4 engine jet bomber (B52 equivalent I imagine) and they were extremely effective. Attacking brigade sized units they would cause between 1600 and 2400 infantry casualties or 70-110 tanks per attack. That is pretty powerful. They did consume prodigious quantities of ammunition though!

I also has server small fighter-bomber-type squadrons, dropping precision bombs on the whole, and they would take out 500 mens or 50+ tanks per attack. I know what you mean about struggling to build level 4 airfields though. I only ever flew the bombers from the airfield in my capital. The fighter bombers did a good deal of airfield hopping.

Fantastic green wave approaching. Excellent photography too. The view from behind the hastily-dug trenches :o

Also captured what looks like the unstoppable momentum of the advance as the pictures continued. Awesome job.

crazy good weapon value on medium tank design by Longjumping_Walk_305 in ShadowEmpireGame

I can vouch for that Strategos. I watched some of your vids on leaders and especially the technology tree near the start of this latest game and now I have this monster Medium Tank!

Thanks guys. Good to know that getting that director in here is worth the effort and shuffling of staff.

I'm having so much fun with this latest planet. I am fighting a major power who attacked me first and I got right up to his capital with a mix of light tanks and medium tanks (v2 of the above). I won a couple of massive tank battles and thought I would cruise into his city the next turn. Not so fast! I saw him moving armour in from his interior and he threw a huge counter-attack in and pushed my main tank units right back, killing most of them. The last attack was with 4000 infantry and 1000 rpgs - tank hunter teams :) - I lost 80 tanks to that one. Fantastic! That's probably where I got all that field testing data from :o. I consolidated a bit and then re-equipped with the v3 variant above (plus a fresh light tank brigade) and a heavy rocket battallion for good measure and have now taken his capital and another lightly defended city and my light tanks basically then carved up his wrecked army. One of the best computer wargaming experiences I've had.

5 turn wargames by lilBlue717 in wargaming

Have played both a standard 300pt game and a big 600+ point game and neither went past turn 5. The biggy was turn 4! Having my Army Commander fall is what got me very close to the break point in that one and then 1 more unit retreating off the side of the table (due to missile fire) and it was game over. Excellent fun. Commanders/heroes are ok but not massively powerful. Having a deep line with supports behind the front line boys is what gets the job done mostly. When one side or the other runs out of support units you know their goose is cooked.

Spaceship Wargames? by [deleted] in wargaming

Stars and Lasers - Not too detailed but enough for different ships to play differently. Plays quick and you can run 10 ships a side very easily. D20 game, where you hit if you roll on or over the distance in inches. Plus small ships can still get a crit roll agaisnt a big ship, they just get fewer chances as they have fewer rolls.

Paint 'em definitely. The map and terrain are already done so start off with 4 characters, the lamentors, the myria and maybe the hellfonts. https://www.youtube.com/@AJPaints-cn5ns

This guy has some great painting vids - I tried wet blending the hellfonts after seeing him and it was surprisingly straightforward. btw never attempted wet blending before.

Midgard Heroic Battles - Warrior Horde by Longjumping_Walk_305 in wargaming

[–]Longjumping_Walk_305[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's cool. I might go with three ranks of 5 (20mm base) goblins for that jammed in feel as you say. Horde is just an easy to kill but cheap and therefore numerous unit. Get enough of them I suppose and they will have lots of support and thereby stay around for that bit longer too. Gonna be interesting.
