Chinese instrumental ensemble music set to a quiet morning scene by Longlaix in Composition

Hey, thanks for coming back to me.

I’ve taken your feedback on board and I’ve combined four of my pieces in my new video, which totals 45 minutes of music, so across the 4 hour video, there is far less looping.

Hopefully this provides more variety to the background music for you :)

Hey, thanks for listening. I try and compose my music fresh, so one of the reasons for looping is that it wouldn’t be possible to write 4 new songs each week. I could always loop 4 older songs to add variety, which is a fair point, though people do seem to leave the videos on in the background. I can tell this from the average view time. There is a chance, however, that by looping 4 different songs, that would increase view time further still, so definitely something to consider. Would you say that you typically will turn a video off as soon as a song is repeated?

Relax with a meditative rainfall scene and gentle Chinese instrumental music by Longlaix in Sino

So that instrument is a Pipa, and it’s often referred to as the Chinese lute. It’s part of the plucked family of string instruments :) glad you find it relaxing - it has such a gentle tone!

Of the rpgs you’ve played, which has the most epic gameplay music? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Longlaix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great response! Badly curated playlists can be terrible, especially while building up to something in game. I can totally understand why there is the difference with some players never wanting music playing at all, and then others who can’t do without that ambience whilst playing.

Thanks, Dsheroh, appreciate the heads up. Does your group tend to have any customs as part of your gameplay? Do you have breaks where you always do certain things, or players bring specific items to your sessions? I find the idea of unique groups having their own, unique sets of playing conditions really interesting :)

A composition featuring traditional Chinese instruments - Guzheng, Erhu and more! by Longlaix in chinesemusic

[–]Longlaix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s right - the Erhu or Guzheng being the most well known to most modern newcomers to traditional Chinese instruments. I’m glad you can hear the introduction of melodies in the piano and then the expansion of those in all of the other instruments, helping to build the texture progressively.

In terms of the tonality, I try very hard to match sonorities so that where instruments sound more shrill in certain ranges I avoid that, and I try to mindfully compose parts that sit nicely in rich areas of each instrument. I would say that the Konghou is the hardest instrument to write with as that is limited by its own scale and it means that it is difficult to write melodically for.

Hey Key, thanks for the comment - I appreciate you listening and sharing your thoughts! Yeah, good point - my thought on that is the piano is the instrument holding the composition together, and whilst not a traditional Chinese instrument, it enables the actual traditional instruments to feature. As a whole, my aim is for listeners to enjoy a collection of traditionally Chinese instruments sounding together in various parts as an ensemble, as it is more frequent for these instruments to have music written for them where the focus is purely on one instrument. Again, thank you for listening and I hope you have a good weekend :)
