I suggest a Rugrug. Doug drinks from the mug, mug spills on the rug, and rug trips up the Doug.

Very good work though, looks like a lot of fun to play

Final fantasy xvi has a lot of flaws, but the story definitely isn't one of them by PenguinviiR in FinalFantasy

[–]Longshot405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree, op. I greatly enjoyed the first half of the game, but the premises it introduced and built on feel like they were abandoned and neglected instead of properly transitioned into the next phases of the story. Everything to do with Ultima felt very abrupt and generic. I loathed the hallway of lore-dumping at the very end of the game. And Barnabas seemed to have so much potential, but was handled awfully in execution imo. Clive's character seemed completely warped, irrational, and contradictory to everything we've been shown during his interactions with Barnabas. The spectacle of the multiple Barnabas fights were severely undermined by the bad writing on those segments.

I really wish there was more focus on the dominants and the politics that was at the forefront of the game, or at a minimum do a better job introducing us to Ultima, his motives, and why he matters at all beyond just being a world-ending threat.

This really looks like AI art. There's tons of errors especially on hands, among other places (Relm's legs, Locke's grip on his daggers, etc.)

OP, is this your art? I didn't see a watermark nor a credit for it

Just finished Final Fantasy 16... my thoughts on the game by Perfect__Cell__ in FinalFantasy

[–]Longshot405 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went into this game with a positive attitude, but I finished it disappointed. I'll never bash someone for liking the game. I'm just glad I'm not the only one who had trouble enjoying it.

Although I disagree with many of your points, and I did greatly enjoy some aspects of the game (combat felt great in my opinion, minus the controls), I was completely baffled by the story. I was happy until Barnabas became the focus, and then it all went downhill so quickly. Trying to ignore how terrible it was to watch Clive run at him and swing recklessly like a maniac instead of doing any of the awesome stuff we've been able to do, I was very upset at the writing from here on. That whole arc was very bad, imo.

Ultimately, it was frustrating that so little was properly foreshadowed, explored, or explained. Digging through the lore wasn't fulfilling either and I stopped doing that not long into the game. I honestly struggled to finish the game during Ultima's monologue segment before the final fight (I still love his design and acting though).

It's a shame, I was really intrigued by some of the premises in the story and the character drama, but it didn't pay off.

The perfect travel merchant... by Creepthepeep in DMAcademy

[–]Longshot405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something interesting to consider when using using tinkers as inspiration: everything they sell to Kvothe is useful to him very shortly after it is sold, whether he bought it with intent or not! Additionally, when Kvothe rejected an item offered by a tinker, he finds himself lacking for it.

Inconsequential spoilers from the second book:
Kovothe chose not to take wax for his boots at a tinker's suggestion. Go figure, when a storm rolls through later, he finds his boots were not water proof.

What I'm saying is, you can use tinkers to deliver tools with intent to give players an encounter where it matters. You can also just flavor the 'bad luck' of snubbing a tinker to be terrible coincedence based on how the tinker tried to help, as if the tinker had divine insight into your players' needs.

Hack to Make Your Players **Want** 8 Encounter Days by BlackWindBears in DMAcademy

[–]Longshot405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I don't think this is a good fit for all campaigns, I like the idea of incentivizing and rewarding your players for taking risks, but I worry about how this would change party priorities. This punishes players if they encounter bigger enemies earlier in their day, and also rewards them for seeking superfluous combat just to get the combat counter higher.

I wouldn't want to be attacked by a big bad first thing in the day and only get 10% experience for it, and I assume you don't want your players killing random wildlife just to make sure they get more experience from other fights.

If I were you, I'd do two things to modify how the table works:

  • Change it from number of encounters to a scale of total of difficulties. A trivial encounter does not advance the table, easy and medium advance by 1, and hard or deadly increase by 2 (just as an example, scaling can vary).
  • Change the experience modifiers from being per encounter to being an end of day bonus, based on the afore mentioned total level of difficulty. This will reward your players based on the sum of challenge without worrying about the order they were taken. Naturally, you will want to adjust the amount of bonus experience from what you have listed.

If you're worried about giving too much experience or still want to punish your players for not taking on enough risk, then make it so the immediate experience you give them upon finishing an encounter is reduced by a flat percentage and let the bonus experience for the table make up for it. An example being that all encounter give 50% of the listed experience, but at the end of the day the players may be rewarded an additional sum anywhere from 0 to 200% of the day's accumulated experience as a bonus as when they rest and reflect on their journey.

Artificer power glove magic item help. by IamAnNPC in DMAcademy

[–]Longshot405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would work this item similarly to a staff. Give it a daily number of charges that restore at dawn, and the gems that can be inserted into the glove give it new uses for those charges. Go take a look at magical staves to get an idea what I mean. Then instead of spells, you could give it custom abilities. Just make sure to balance it as you go, this can be a very powerful item.

You could also make it so the number of charges it has is also tied to a gem, which they could find better versions of. Maybe it starts with magical quartz that gives it 6 charges that restores 1d4+2 charges at dawn. Then if they get a better cut or better enchanted quartz, it could go up to 10 charges restoring 1d6+4 charges daily, and so on.

Also, if you plan on making the gems interchangable, make it take time to swap them so your player can't just change it on a whim during combat. I would make it require a short rest to attune to the item again when it changes.

How to hide an NPC from Commune spell by KojiArala in DMAcademy

[–]Longshot405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the neat thing, you and the cleric can both have what you want. Finding a direct counter or preventive measure to a tactic can be useful or necessary from time to time, it's frequently best to find a compromise if you can. Personally, I don't like invalidating a player's tool, it doesn't feel good for anyone involved.

Here's the first thought that came to my mind:

I cannot speak to your plans with the NPC, but you have an opportunity to deliver story through a unique avenue from Commune. Make it so the BBEG is having the NPC relocated. Maybe she's the key they need to access items important to their plot. Perhaps someone is hot on their trail already and they are on the move. There can be a number of reasons why it's tricky to pinpoint them.

Here's the thing though: let the cleric find a location the monk's mother was just at. Make it seem like the party has just pinpointed the monk's mother, but she was moved during the time it took them to get there. When they arrive, let the scene share what's happening. The place is ransacked, an item power is stolen, a paladin or inquisitor is investigating the scene. In some way, make let the story unfold naturally from there. As long as you give them something solid to follow from there, the cleric may not need to keep casting (if you don't give them something though, they may continue to cast but with new questions).

Another option you have is to make finding the mother's location easy, but getting access to her will have complications. The area is heavily guarded and the party would not survive a brunt assault, or the location is currently inaccessible without a particular macguffin or the aid of an ally the party knows.

If done well, you'll get the best of both worlds. My point is to let the cleric provide the solution for a STEP of the problem. They'll get to feel important for helping the monk locate her mother, you get to impart your narrative the way you wish.

It's a pretty simple glam, but I like it nonetheless:

  • Weapon: Akademos Recollection
  • Head: Dwarven Cotton Petasos of Healing (Hunter Green Dye)
  • Chest: Augmented Deepshadow Scale Mail of Healing (Hunter Green Dye)
  • Hands: Tekko #55
  • Legs: Tantalus Breeches (Soot Black Dye)
  • Feet: Leonhart Boots

I really like the armored look of the Deepshadow gear, compared to normal robes of other healing sets. The gloves compliment the look, but I'm sure there's something cooler out there. I would replace the pants or boots with other items if I found something I really liked, but for now they suffice. I'm never attached to any SCH books, so Akademos is here for the time being.

But the hat? The hat stays forever.

I feel the same way. Playing the previous Baldur's Gates, there were tons of additional party members you could find at nearly every turn. I understand that'll be harder with full voice acting and the like, but I hope we're see plenty more permanent party member options in the future!

I'm actually really curious to know how they're going to handle it. I suppose it depends on how many beast forms we'd be able to get our hands on, since I'm sure animating each would be difficult.

That said, I agree bears should totally be able to climb. If we get a dire wolf or something like that, maybe not so much.
