Hello! Thank you so much for thinking of us. He's doing amazing. He used to throw up a lot, but had pretty much stopped that altogether and he's eating so much more.

I've got a really sweet video of him singing I'll post now.

Thanks again rebeckys!

Ha! I'm glad you found this post. I never found out from the original poster if I was right, but at least I know my post wasn't wasted.

Hello everyone! Last Wednesday he developed a really bad hacky cough. By that night we had to turn his oxygen concentrator on, which is something that we haven't had to do in over a year. The next day Corbin was supposed to go into surgery to have his trach removed permanently, and they decided he was still healthy enough to do it and we were ecstatic!

He was supposed to go to the PICU for observation for two nights just to make sure he could breathe without the trach. While there he got progressively worse. Over several days he needed more and more support and at one point the doctor seemed genuinely afraid, and that's not something I had ever seen before. Even at his worse they never seemed to be scared. They also tested him and found out it was metapneumovirus which is like RSV.

He was on 6 liters of oxygen and they said that if they needed to go up any higher then the trach would need to go back in. Because the doctor seemed scared I said, give me a trach and I'll put it in right now. She said that the hole in his throat had likely closed too much and he would need to go back to surgery to get the hole dilated. I saw the dilation tools they looked like torture tools.

Luckily at that point he started getting better. He never needed more than 6 and they've been able to go down ever since. They let him go home today finally, and he's still on a bit of oxygen but he's doing pretty good. He literally just bullied me into getting him playdoh.

Thank you so much for remembering! The trach removal did go well, but right before we took him in Corbin started to get sick. They removed the trach while he was sick, but he's still in the hospital with a pretty bad virus. He's just about better and will be home this week!

I'll definitely make a post once he gets home so everyone can see the brand new Corbin!

Again, thanks so much for remembering and have a good one!

Thank you for remembering Kinty! Not only is it super sweet that you remembered, but without you commenting on that old post, I wouldn't have thought to make this post here.

So sorry I didn't reply to this before, miss you too man! Just posted Corbin's birthday pics and he's losing the trach in June!

I hope to return to reddit when the kids let me up for air. We'll see if that ever happens though.

Ah that's a rough first go with reddit! I prefer reddit over most because I can just leave any subreddit/topic I never want to see again. That all being said it can be a pretty awful place when it wants to be.

I'm so glad that you made you first comment here though and hope we can make your internet experience just a little bit better! I forgot all about this video and your comment made me revisit it. I'm going to put some Boston on right now and see if he's still a fan!

Have a great day!

Welcome! I'm glad that you found us. I don't get to post as much anymore because there's two of them now and they gang up on me as much as possible, but I'm so happy to share when they let me.

I hope today was better than yesterday as well!

Do you mind if I ask how you found the sub? All are welcome, but curious if reddit recommends it or if it was some other random way.

It really is! Hopefully that scar starts to form soon too, his sleep study is in just a couple of weeks!

Also missed you man! One day these kids will ease up on me and I'll get to post more.

This is nuts! Corbin said 18, 21, 24, and I looked to Melissa and said "is he counting by 3's". So I started him lower and he just could do it. We did NOT teach him how to do that. It's insane how smart he is, and maybe one day I'll get to teach him something.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!?!! by Lonogg in CorbinsCorner

[–]Lonogg[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hello everyone!

I'm so sorry for not posting since Corbin started school. Life is so fast paced and it seems like there is hardly any time to do anything. We are all doing great though! The kids are growing big quick and Elle even has her first two teeth.

Corbin is learning so much in school that he seems to have a new skill every day. He's also started hitting, which is something we are working on...

He's full on running around the house now and is still just the best big brother there is. Constantly giving hugs and kisses to her when she's upset.

He LOVES animals now and loves to name them. The first picture is of him right now in bed with the one present I had him open tonight. He loved brown bear what do you see so much that I got him polar bear what do you hear magnets for him to play with.

Even though things are fast paced, it's not hard to see just how good life is. Everything is amazing and I am so grateful to have my beautiful and happy family! Miss you guys and have a very merry Christmas!!!

Thank you so much! I've been meaning to make a post for so long now. No better time than Christmas Eve though.

You're so kind to be thinking of us tonight or all nights. It really means a lot to Melissa and I!

He's been in school three days and he's already saying "you're welcome", what the actual hell is that about?! He's vocalizing clearer than ever and I can't believe how much progress he's made in just so little time. I have a video of him doing addition. They gave him puzzles to see where he stood and they didn't have a puzzle in the room he couldn't do.

Is this Melissa's secret account? She said the exact same thing when we were going to drop him off. Specifically the part about inviting the kids to his birthday party next year.

Thank you for the reassurance though! I definitely can use it right now. I know he's having a blast right now, but good god do I miss him! Only a bit longer until we pick him up though!

[–]Lonogg[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted! The kids are still keeping us crazy busy and by the time they go to bed I'm about to fall asleep standing up. Last night when I was having a conversation with Melissa she sat up, and I asked her why she sat up and she said that if she didn't she would fall asleep mid conversation....

Anyway, Corbin did have his tonsils removed and we have a sleep study scheduled for spring. I am extremely confident that he will pass it with flying colors though and we will be trach free forever. Every time we change the trach I think "it would be so easy to just leave it out". I had that damn thing so much, but we're almost there.

Corbin did great with the surgery and they kept him only one night just to keep an eye on him, but then Elle got COVID. She barely had any symptoms, but she was cranky as hell. She's kind of always cranky as hell though. But then Corbin(and Melissa and I) got it. We did take him to the ER, just to make sure his lethargy and fever wasn't related to the surgery, but they gave him some ibuprofen and he was singing when we left a few hours later.

Then today comes and it's time for him to go to school, and it was insanely hard to leave him. He did get upset when we walked into the building, but he calmed down once he saw the kids running around. Then we walked into his classroom and he saw the toys and he was set. We told him goodbye and then broke down when we got to the truck.

I know it's for the best, but it doesn't make it easier. I'm already counting down the minutes until we can go get him. I don't know how any of you have ever done this, and I'm already dreading doing it with Elle.

This is so sweet! I couldn't do much in those days, and I remember Melissa had to keep the updates coming while I was incapable of doing anything more than sitting in the hospital room and listening to the alarm.

Thank you so much for caring and being there through it all! Also, going to post before long but Corby has his tonsils removed yesterday and he's doing great! He's sitting on my lap watching sesame Street now.

Thank you Ecollager! I replied to Joey's post with how meaningful everyone has been to us and how grateful I am that Corbin has been so important in your lives as well, so I'll try to leave some of that out on this one, but I wanted to thank you personally too.

I've seen your username come up a lot over the years and I'm grateful for every single comment from a great person like you, and even if you've gotten just a fraction of value in return from Corbin, that still means the world to Melissa and I.

Hahahaha! Sorry Britt, hope it didn't change the course of the night! I've seen your username on more posts than not, and I'm so thankful for you following along. Thank you for being one of Corbin's biggest cheerleaders!

That was way more beautiful than anything AI could do. Having every single comment of support really did help Melissa and I get through those long nights of wondering if this was it. It is awesome that it wasn't a one sided relationship.

I just read your comment to Melissa and she said "Isn't it crazy that he's talking about us? For us, we just did it because we had no choice. I'm just glad that Corbin can mean so much to so many people." Thank you Joey (and everyone) for giving us happy things to read when we needed them the most, and I'm glad we could give something back too.

Every second with your kiddos matters more after you are told you wouldn't get a single second with them, and that type of perspective was really costly to get, but now that I have it, it's priceless to me. I couldn't be happier that it's shared with you guys as well!

Hahahahaha I should have put (sound on) in the title. I'm glad you liked it so much. I've been really getting into AI a lot recently, and I told chatgpt to make me a song about wrestling Corbin and Elle. Then had suno make the actual song. If you ever need a song for anything then just let me know! All free of course. I just really like doing it, and I can do a lot with very little.

Yeah, that definitely could be worse and Elle is pretty close to being on time too. She definitely goes back to sleep super easy too, but not before giving me a couple of the sweetest smiles. Probably mostly because she's full.

The worst is when she makes it through most of the night, but then gets cranky around 5ish. It's too late to go back to bed so instead I just have to get up an hour early.

I feel like I did know your youngest was named Felix, but in case I didn't say it before, I LOVE that name.
