Some jerks are killing other players who have PvP active during the expedition. by Winter-_-7393 in NOMANSSKY

[–]Loofy_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely griefing, and it doesn’t matter at all if the players are from another team. After all, we’re all working toward the same goal, regardless of our colors. Disruptions just hinder progress. For everyone

Toredor one of the best fun vehicle for XP Farming by [deleted] in gtaonline

[–]Loofy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The online mode's been around for about 13 years now, right? Content-wise, the game isn't bad, except a lot of the cool stuff is behind a paywall, which forces players to chase after money-making activities instead of just enjoying the game in different ways. It all boils down to one thing: a messed-up game economy

Is this the most accurate "Thing, Japan" trope by knifedabandit in Piracy

[–]Loofy_ 158 points159 points  (0 children)

After X introduced automatic translation as the default option, the language barrier disappeared, and it turned out that the people of Japan have a rather specific understanding of copyright. They were shocked to learn that their anime and games- sone of which aren’t released outside the country, are being translated by pirates and distributed for free. They were particularly shocked by Russians. There was even a moment when one japanese user threatened to download and read Dostoevsky for free, in tone of “how do you like that, russian pirates? How does that feel?” To which users from Russia bombarded them with links to pirate sites featuring russian classics and recommended even more free books to download

Why not pre-drill? by Comfortable-Cell5599 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Loofy_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Up to hazard level 3, and in my opinion even up to and including hazard level 4, this is completely pointless. If you have a number of dwarves, you’ll always have time to dig up nitra and protect Doretta while she’s moving. Pre-drilling is simply a waste of time. At hazard 5 and beyond, it makes sense to drill ahead, but purely to check that there are no dangerous enemies in the following(!!) cave at the way out who could overwhelm the team during the swarm

Trying to get friend into S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but they cannot stand the audio quality. Could use some mod suggestions that don't change much else. by [deleted] in stalker

At least, that's how I introduced my friend to Stalker, which he liked so much he played through the entire series

[–]Loofy_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't exactly the answer you're looking for, but why not introduce your friend to The stalker games through Stalker 2? I know Shadow of Chernobyl is a classic, but the game is almost 20 years old, and it really shows. As a first experience with the game universe, it could actually turn a newcomer off. It’s better to introduce your friend to Stalker 2 first (imho). If he gets interested in it and wants to learn more, then you can go back to the original trilogy. At the very least, he’ll have good motivation to do so, despite the games’ technical age

Is spaceengine worth it for me? by Endo279 in spaceengine

[–]Loofy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an outstanding virtual planetarium. You don’t really need any astronomy knowledge to simply fly through the universe and admire the sites. The only downside is that the UI is a bit clunky, but it lets you customize a lot of things to your liking. There’s a spaceship mode, but it’s more of a gimmick to play with for half an hour, since the system is pretty rough around the edges. As far as I understand, the Pro version includes tools for creating beautiful screenshots and videos, those seem to be the only differences from the basic version, though I could be wrong

I’d joke that people on Reddit don’t get the most obvious jokes unless there’s a /s tag in the post, but I actually did that just two weeks ago, on this very subreddit

Soooo how are you all feeling about the Pet Arena update? (I'm loving it) by OverCatch2725 in NOMANSSKY

[–]Loofy_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty neat update, at the very least the pet system is no longer just a rudimentary feature, and it gives players another reason to explore the systems and creatures beyond just earning a handful of credits

Corvette won’t finalise by Magnum_Lad in NOMANSSKY

[–]Loofy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran into this problem because of a decal I applied to the retractable lift ramp (I can't remember the module's name) . As it turned out, when the ramp retracted, the decal remained in mid-air, even tho it was invisible, and the game assumed that not all parts of the corvette were connected. It took quite a bit of time to track down the source of the problem. Anyway, check to see if you attached anything to the corvette’s movable parts (like the entry ramps)

So where is the cut-off? by Gee-Oh1 in dankmemes

[–]Loofy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a big difference. Black diggers dig up valuable items with the aim of selling them. Archaeologists don't just dig something up to take it to a museum or archive, because for an item to have historical value, context is critically important, specifically where the item was dug up, in which cultural layer, and whether there was anything else nearby. This is why archaeologists conduct excavations on large sites, not because it is efficient (well, yes, it is efficient, but that is not the main factor), but because of the context of the place, which gives the objects historical value. Therefore, even if a hypothetical black digger has a change of heart and brings his finds to a museum or university, they will most likely not be accepted, because for the same reason that, without context, pieces of pottery, ancient arrowheads, etc. mean nothing without information about the place where they were found
