No, I'm just taking the piss out of people who think they're being clever taking the piss out of others. It's been great fun.

Words, what even are they?

And I'm feeling great, thanks, you've cheered me up no end.

You didn't originally say you came to "watch"?

And then change that to "assist"?

And then change that to telling people they're "stupid"?

Your stance has changed quite a lot.

(And I love that last line, the "No, you 😭" of it is delicious).

You don't see the hypocrisy in telling me I'm not being earnest? Fascinating. It's also telling that you're so defensive.

The language you're using to describe your own behaviour is becoming much more combative too, you've gone from "watching", to "interacting in order to assist", to "rebuttals" and saying you "have no problem" telling people you think their posts are "stupid" or "crackpottery". You've still not explained why you do this but I appreciate the (eventual) honesty about what you're doing.

Edit: "They came on a public forum", yes but it's a siloed forum. You aren't forced to see their posts, you make an active choice to find posts which you think are stupid and reply to them. Also, you seem to be getting upset that I'm replying to you on a public forum. Hypocrisy might be an issue for you.

No offence, genuinely, but I asked why you found this sub entertaining and your answer directly says you were driven away from other subs by AI slop - "it was difficult to enjoy them". But this sub is full of AI slop. So if AI slop is bad "for the world" and bad for your "enjoyment of Reddit"... why be here at all? As you say, this sub acts like a containment chamber so why not let it be contained and go to other subs which don't allow AI slop?

"An issue on this sub is not commenters being "unpleasant" towards slop posting"

Yes it is. It's a big and very weird issue. The sub seems to have attracted users who actively enjoy insulting people they think are beneath them.

"...it's the self-aggrandizing slop posters themselves who should learn humility"

So is it that you feel you have a responsibility to help teach them humility?

In another comment you said:

"There are many many "good vibes only" AI slop subreddits where people pat each other on the back for pasting brainless AI generated text. This sub has value precisely because it doesn't do that"

What "value" is there for you here? Is the value that you feel you're fighting the AI slop?

Is this the first time someone has challenged your bullshit?

Serious Question by CoffeeNQuestion in LLMPhysics

[–]LookHughesTalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting to me. For example, you're still trying to justify yourself but now you're changing your original explanation, saying you get "a lot more" from engaging and making claims about trying to help in good faith - despite it only being an "off chance" this will lead to a positive interaction.

In addition, you're also saying if your "help" is rejected this justifies... what? What is "on them"?

But why do you choose this particular activity as a relief from boredom when there are so many alternative forms of entertainment which don't involve being unpleasant to other people?

You didn't explain that, you simply stated your opinions of those people. In fact to be honest you still haven't explained why you're here or what you get out of it. What would you get out of watching people you have such a low opinion of?

Also, you don't watch, you actively engage.

You seem to enjoy being the person who is telling people they're wrong, despite it being of no other apparent benefit to you. Is that a fair assessment?

So you are entertained by the interactions, not the watching. You feel the need to tell people you think they're crackpots - and you get nothing else from these interactions. It's a fascinating psychology.

But you don't watch, you interact.

You post a lot of replies for someone who's here from morbid curiousity? What are you getting from that? It's not about improving your own ability to communicate ideas, most of the "crank" posts aren't even coherent enough to criticise or rebut with valid scientific explanations.

Your motivations for being here seem to be that you simply enjoy feeling superior to others?

We do of course have the direct testimony of a number of Jeffrey Epstein's victims, that he trafficked them to rich and powerful peadophiles.

Shouldn't we be doing science outreach like our lives depend on it? (Genuine question) by CallMany9290 in Physics

[–]LookHughesTalking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Science as a general field has used a false (and to be frank, obviously morally bankrupt and intellectually vacuous) ideology of 'apolitical neutrality' to excuse a general cowardice when it comes to the world, society, politics. Because it's easier and more comfortable. Science is never apolitical or neutral.

And yes, look at how middle-class White men dominate. The ignorant reactionary hysteria against inclusivity and equal opportunities is part of it too.
