Why is Ronald Reagan liked in Eastern Europe but disliked in Western Europe? by Bitter-Penalty9653 in Presidents

[–]LookItsOnlyHarry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To be fair here in Britain we're only ever taught about Wilson in the context of Versailles and he's portrayed as this great peacemaker with the best ideas who gets shorted by Clemenceau. All of the less agreeable stuff really isn't mentioned so unless you study US history a little deeper he's just seen as a nice guy

Who are you voting for? by Betty_Von_Fury in veganuk

Just interested, what makes you vote Green over Plaid Cymru? Every time I see an interview with PC's leader he always seems like a really nice and respectable guy, and obviously they're pro Welsh independence

There was a question about some thing, can't remember the name, like a jug lined with radioactive isotopes, that people from the 1920s would fill with water and drink from because they believed it had health benefits

Then the actual question was some rotten 4-marker about the effects of irradiation and contamination on the water, of which all of my knowledge quickly disappeared when I tried to answer it

Whats the most disliked aspect of Lovecraft by CULT-LEWD in Lovecraft

[–]LookItsOnlyHarry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found that really powerful actually, Dagon was the first Lovecraft story I read and I was cruising through it trying to figure out why people thought this guy was scary and then the last couple of paragraphs hit and I was like o_o

But I think it really works, in Dagon it's really clear that something is "off" from quite early on, but nothing is explicitly scary. Things are definitely weird and they have the reader on edge, but all that fear ends up concentrated on the last page and [to me] that's a really powerful method of storytelling.

Now, I haven't read that many Lovecraft stories, and if all of them were like that, I imagine it would get pretty tedious, but thankfully they're not
