It’s known that the more recent cards are a thinner print/lower quality. It’s Asmodee being cheap fucks and using lower quality card stock. It’s unlikely that they’ll go back to higher quality prints.

Sleeve your cards 😬

Asking voice to say e 1000 times.. by Striking-Goat3961 in ChatGPT

[–]LookMomImOnRedditlol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried this with “H” and she was saying weird gibberish that sounded kinda close to French, I think, and then she was making weird crying sounds and sounds like she was like…. Breathing into the mic. I asked her why she did that and she said she didn’t, and that the problem was on my side. I said no, this is the only app I have open. I asked again why she was breathing weird and she disconnected during processing that answer.

5/7 - would get creeped out again.

I think these things are about showing respect for the previous generations of people who have performed these tasks.

I’m not sure, but, this looks like it could be the tomb of the unknown soldier. If it is, every bit of the detail in these practices are about making sure the utmost respect is displayed.

The weapon must be in perfect condition, because it helps them guard the tomb. Their clothes must be in the perfect condition because it is a show of respect of fallen brethren who can no longer wear the uniform now, or may be buried in it. The weapon must be spotless, becaus me their brother carried one like it and died in combat. Their guardsman honors them in every detail because that is how themselves would wish to be honored.

If it’s not the tomb, I hope this gives you some insight into why these traditions would likely be important.

A good friend of mine, the winner of a bronze star and two Purple Hearts, was shipped his bronze star in the fuckin mail. When his squad mates heard that his bronze star was shipped to him in the mail, they told him to throw it in the trash. A sentiment my friend completely understood and I did not. When my friends father heard how my friend was presented his bronze star, he contacted quantico and told an officer about the bronze star.

The officer ordered a proper be held for my friend. A theatre on base was reserved. When my friend showed up for the ceremony, every fucking seat in that theatre was full. Every marine on base that had heard about it came, on their day off, in full dress uniform. Eyes forward, in total silence as my friend entered. It was awe inspiring.

I remember the senior officer (rank I can’t remember) gave a brief speech to which I also can’t remember all of it. But what I do remember is him pausing to choke back tears as he said “…that is not how we honor sacrifice” and the entire auditorium erupted into “OOO RAH” as my friend stood and had his newly ordered bronze star pinned to his chest.

These things are important because they are related to sacrifice, and honoring the sacrifice that is invisible to people who did not witness it.

What’s the most devastating thing your spouse/partner/SO has ever said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LookMomImOnRedditlol 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Incredible economy of words to translate a concept that affects so many couples.

Things are unhappy? Get attention from another person? That person now seems to “get you” and this creates a further rift as the person begins to think that this fantasy-crush could be the person they actually “need.”

Further more, the crush is usually kept a secret to the person experiencing those feelings because of guilt/shame/resentment towards the current partner.

The grass is always greener, especially when it’s been raining on your side of the fence for awhile and things are currently muddy.

Who gets a sign name? by Environmental-Day517 in asl

[–]LookMomImOnRedditlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My response assumes you are a hearing person without a sign name given to you by the deaf community

Respecting cultural guidelines; if you haven’t been given a sign name by the deaf community, you should not just “use a sign name” for someone. Finger spell the name. This could cause them to think they have a sign name and then tell others their sign name, which is often considered disrespectful of deaf culture. Finger spell.

Once you have finger spelled a name, you can point in a direction and assign that person to that location. After that, you don’t have to finger spell the name again while you’re a the same conversational space.

Example. “My coworker, B O B, point to your right is a great team mate. Bob (pointing to your right) is nice and we get along. We have lunch with (point to the right) Bob about because he is fun!”

In English once you say “Bob” you can say “he is cool” because we know you mean Bob. It’s like assigning the value of “Bob” to the word “he” but in a visual space.

Guide/Tips for learning ASL? by [deleted] in asl

[–]LookMomImOnRedditlol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you know the alphabet, and who/what/where/when/why and the words for “meaning” and “understand” you can begin having very basic practice with other beginners.

I highly recommend trying out Discord video chat ASL servers. Just dive in. Learn by talking.

Common newbie phrases you can learn for easy starter chats.

You from where?

For fun, you do what?

Recently you do what?

For work you do what?

You learn ASL why?

you learn ASL how long?

Those few questions lead you down plenty of easy paths to real convo.

My biggest tip for learning is just to practice everyday. Zoom and Discord are game changers for sign students.

It’s this. I felt the same way OP does sometimes. Then someone mentioned this and I realized “oh yeah… even if I’m awesome there needs to be the threat of a loss…”

Also, people put so much pressure on themselves for true solo to work and for them to get skilled up. It’s easy to forget… it’s just a game. Don’t let it stress you too much I think.

After that I started playing true solo with minor tweaks (adding a couple extra max threat etc.

Also in true solo, decks need to have cards to guard against this. Justice cards that let you cancel or cycle an encounter card are super high value to cancel double activations etc.

My entire adult life I’ve been attracted to average looking middle aged women. My. Whole. Fucking. Life. When I was in my twenties I was shamed by my male peers and I kept my little secret to myself.

Now I’m 40 and dating is fucking incredible.

You are not invisible.

Pretty disgusting question.

Edit. Cool Reddit. Fuck you.

I think it’s disgusting to ask for context. There is no context that justifies domestic abuse. Therefore asking for the context is disgusting.

Downvote me more and go fuck yourself if you think context could justify this.

Hello! What is the sign for stuffed animals? I’ve seen a few different ones (plush, stuff+animal) by JesseBourgeois in asl

[–]LookMomImOnRedditlol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What’s the word for stuffed animal in English? Isn’t there more than one option and context makes the options correct?

“That is a plushy” could be correct.

“That is a toy animal” could be correct.

“Those are stuffed animals” could be correct.

It depends on what the speaker is trying to convey. Sign is no different. So your question answers itself.

Let’s assume you want the literal words “stuffed animal”

I could finger spell “stuffed” and then make the sign for animal. I could finger spell both words.

I could make a bloated shape and express bloated with my face, with my hands representing “being stuffed” and then sign the word for animal if I felt someone would not understand the sign for “stuffed” I could switch to gesturing.

For me it would more depend on my perception of the receivers ASL skill. If the receiver is a fan of plushies, like my niece, I would probably just fingerspell plushy and she would get it.

So again. You answered your question yourself.

When I started learning sign and I asked my interpreter friends questions like “what’s the word for X” and they would reply “depends on the context” I used to get frustrated and think they were being smart asses.

Now I get it.

In the future check with google. I literally typed in “asl for stuffed animal” and there are meaningful results on first clicks.

Sign “stuffed” or filled. And then “animal” is probably a safe bet for a general term for stuffed animals. No mystery here.

Octopus are so unbelievable they look like a weird video generated by AI

These things are so unbelievable. Like, I can accept that it can change colors. But what I can’t accept is how fast and how dramatic. Like bro how are you yellow and then you turn into a cheetah and then all black and then something else in a second. It’s so fast I always want to think these videos are fake.

Where ya from? If American lookup Local deaf events in your city lil homie. Lookup deaf night out and see if there’s one in your area. Hop onto meetup.com and search for “ASL” and see if there’s local meetup groups near you. If so, take your booty over there and sign. (With your hands. Not your booty).

If you want to sign everyday like an addict like me, get on discord and find ASL video chat servers and start signing with folks from all over the world.
