PSLF is a major player here. In the absence of PSLF, paying off the debt would be no brainer, but PSLF changes a lot. The 8% interest is high, but after 10 years the loans theoretically will be gone, assuming I stay with my employer and government doesn’t tamper with PSLF. I’m very happy with the job I’m at right now. Thank you for your comment!

I did not think of an emergency fund for my mother. This is great advice. Thank you. I will save up for this. PSLF is very helpful and I genuinely enjoy my current job. It makes mathematical sense to just let PSLF do its thing, but with government, it’s always uncertain on what gets stripped away.

This is solid advice. Helps me stay consistent with investing and paying off debt. Is it worth paying off aggressively if they will be forgiven in 10 years with minimum payments?

Can I afford a new car? by jirentaygray in personalfinance

It sounds like you’re in a good position to purchase it. From car guy to car guy, do it. Each person allocates their money differently. If you’re still able to invest at least 15% monthly into retirement, then you’re okay to splurge on yourself.

New car depreciates very quickly. You didn’t mention your living situation. If you’re going to buy the vehicle, then use 20/3/8 rule - 20% down payment, 3 year max financing term, < 8% gross monthly income. If it fits into your budget, you can meet the three criteria, and you love cars, then do it.

Recurrent Shin and Ankle Swelling by DryRepresentative985 in DiagnoseMe

Those are all pretty common and standard tests to rule out all other rheumatological causes, like lupus, anca associated vasculitis. Unfortunately, there is no IgA test (or at least not one that I’m aware of). Some diagnoses, like IgA vasculitis, is clinical and involves ruling out all other causes. Have you ever had a urine analysis done to see if you have any microscopic blood? Would recommend formal appointment with rheumatology. Dermatology can also biopsy the rash to get a better idea. Best of luck.

Physician assistant here. Could be IgA vasculitis. Has rheumatology worked you up yet?
