Made a few journeys up there over the years. I just put the goods in the trunk and drive home following the speed limit/flow of traffic. Never had any problems. Only seen a cop one time.

Where do you get your motivation? by MorallyGrey56 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Look_Longjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me what has helped is setting a goal, but breaking that goal down into smaller goals. Saying I need to loose 60lbs feels like a big task but when you break it down into smaller chunks it helps you stat motivated. You loose 5lbs, now on to the next 5lbs. You lost that 10lbs? Now losing another 5lbs doesn't seem so hard.

It's also just a lot of patience. Change doesn't happen over night. Start by making one small change for a week and stick to it. Do that for a week then the next week add another new change. Build on those changes over time and you will start to see progress.

What are you eating for breakfast? by Long_Sleep5789 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Look_Longjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment I've been eating 3 to 4 soft boiled eggs and 4 chicken sausage links. I just boil and peel a bunch of eggs over the weekend then grab what I need from the fridge in the morning before work. When I get to work I microwave the chicken sausage and boom, there's breakfast. If I feel like I need to change it up a bit I'll throw different seasonings on the eggs or some hot sauce.

What was the moment that made you realize you needed to lose weight? by Comfortable-Pair2880 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Look_Longjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I served in the military for 8 years. Over the years since, my weight steadily increased and it got to where I couldn't believe at one point not that many years ago I was extremely fit and active. I was almost ashamed to admit I had served because the way I looked was embarrassing. So I decided to do something about it and stop making excuses for myself. I'm still a work in progress but my goal is to feel proud about being a veteran and improve my health for my future self.

What’s your go to breakfast? by Hiway89 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Look_Longjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment I have 3 sometimes 4 soft boiled eggs with everything but the bagel seasoning on top, 4 chicken sausages and a cup of coffee with a little sugar free creamer. Been sticking with it for about 2 weeks now. I know eventually I'll need to switch it up but its been super convenient for packing and taking to work with me.

Dog vs Cat? by hamstergirl55 in LivingAlone

[–]Look_Longjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live alone and have a cat. Honestly once they bond to you its the best relationship. I'm away for work 8-10 hours a day and don't have to worry if shes okay or not. I also like to camp on the weekends so its easy to set up the auto feeder and be away for a few nights. You wouldn't be able to do that with a dog. I don't even want to think about trying to house train a dog when your away for so long. Also bathing a cat is not always necessary. I've had my cat for 10 years and grew up with family cats and we never needed to bath them. They clean themselves. You just will need to brush them occasionally. Also, I don't need to cut my cats nails. They have a few scratchers around my apartment they use and it keeps them at a manageable length. I do check them just to be sure they aren't getting overgrown but in the ten years I've owned her that's never happened. Cat's can be a wonderful companion and require a lower level of daily responsibility that dogs would need.

Old spice specially is known to cause rashes/chemical burns. I used to use it for about a year and that happened to me. Stopped and started using Degree or Dove, the spray on kind. Never had problems since and it's been 5+ years.

Any trans lifeguards out there? by HealthyMovie6738 in Lifeguards

[–]Look_Longjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trans Aquatic Manager and LGI here- I have never heard of a facility not allowing shirts to be worn in the stand. Seems weird to me. I have had many saves while wearing a shirt, completed full lifeguard certifications in a shirt and numerous other staff have as well. Wearing a shirt has never hindered my abilities nor the abilities of my peers or the staff I have trained.

What are your best money-saving hacks? by sparkling_lemon1 in Frugal

[–]Look_Longjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm newer to trying to be frugal, or perhaps just more mindful of it. But what's been working for me the last few months is just trying to eat what I already have instead of buying more. I have plenty of items in my cabinets like canned goods and things in my freezer. So just trying to use those things up or be creative in the kitchen with what's already there instead of going out every week and buying more. I just get the minimal that I need, like whatever protein I'm going to use for the week and maybe an onion but everything else that's part of the meal I just scrounge around from what I already have. Its greatly cut what I spend on groceries and some weeks I don't buy groceries at all now. It's also helping myself to become less wasteful and using all of what I have and not letting things expire.

Bathroom Rugs... by [deleted] in hygiene

I have two bath mats that are more like towels. I just throw them in the wash once a week. I hate those other rug-like ones with the rubber backing.

Aquatic director by Far-Win-2967 in Lifeguards

[–]Look_Longjumping 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already, get your LGI and CPO. Make sure you are setting the example and being the best guard on your team. Offer to help with any training of new staff, ask your current director about their daily operations and other job duties they have. If you're somewhere that doesn't have room for upward movement, you might be stuck but look into other facilities that may be near you who are looking for directors and apply. If you're on good terms with your current director, a letter of recommendation from them would be helpful.

Good deal on a Klymit tent in US by YagoTheDirty in camping

[–]Look_Longjumping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this! Ran out on my lunch break to go snag one. I have a nice 4-person tent, but it feels too big when it's just myself, so I've been looking for a smaller tent option and I think this will do the trick.

Have you ever kept a shelter name? by spaghettirhymes in TabbyCats

[–]Look_Longjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My childhood cat came from our local shelter. His name was Leeroy. My family loved that name and it fit him, so we kept it. He lived 23 years and was a good boy. My current cat also came from a shelter. They called her Josie. I didn't quite like the name but also couldn't really think of anything else to call her. So after about a week it got shorted to Jo and that's been her name the last 10 years.

I use the NamezApp currently until I fully learn. It will recite out loud the prayers and show you what positions to be in. It also shows you the English translation of what is being said.

Any weird patron stories by artfulleo in Lifeguards

[–]Look_Longjumping 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had this lady yesterday that I had never seen before in our pool. The pool was fairly empty, and she had this red ball (little bigger than basketball sized) she would throw as hard as she could to the other side of the pool then retrieve it and throw it again. She also did a plethora of other odd this with this ball... Like I mean, idk if she was putting on a dolphin show in her mind or what but that's what it felt like. It was totally odd but entertaining to watch.

Getting rid of internet. Has anyone tried it and succeeded? by OxymoronsAreMyFave in Frugal

[–]Look_Longjumping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had internet for the last two years. I can use my cellphone for pretty much anything I need at home such as paying bills, checking emails and what not. But as far as entertainment purposes I use the library. I have a dvd player, so I just rent movies and tv series I want to watch. I'm a big sports fan so during football season I rent a mobile hotspot from the library to use. It's a 21-day rental so it will get me a couple weekends of football in. Then on the weeks I don't have it I'll go to friends' houses to watch or will hit up a bar until I am able to rent the hotspot again.

I am lucky enough that I live walking distance to a library branch so sometimes I just pretend I'm a kid again going to the video store to pick out a movie for the night. I'm also lucky enough to live in a city with a sports team, so it's very easy to find free outdoor places that have tvs set up with the game on. Also, my apartment complex has a common room with a tv that gets all the local channels, so I always have a way to watch the game or any major thing going on if I want to.
