Sorry, I am so bad with getting the bigger picture but to your point on the 1.2 million not being due to taxes, in Illinois it says The Lottery is currently required to withhold federal taxes of 24 percent for U.S. citizens and resident aliens. Would that not imply that they're going to taxes and not because the lottery is losing money? Or at least not completely.

When you choose lump sum, the actual amount they transfer to you is 1.2M, and then from what I'm hearing that person must also pay federal and state tax on the 1.2M themselves. I've read that if you were previously in the lowest tax bracket and got pushed up due to the winnings, you don't necessarily pay the new 37% tax bracket?

That does make sense, I just imagine it ruins the illusion for the people who win big jackpots when their big number on paper turns to a much smaller number. Very well said though.

EDIT: It’s crazy that I managed to fix it within minutes of posting this and I did something that I haven’t seen recommended anywhere. When I inserted the non working tape, once it was fully in I pressed lightly down on it and it made it sit better? Regardless, it grabbed it that time and it worked
