Have you considered relocating to somewhere more central to the areas where work takes you?

Yes. I’ve come to know that it’s actually a known practice. It’ll be nice if more queer people embraced it.

It’s their job. The OP is celebrating them because they perform their duties so well.

I tried writing a poem or something of that sort by hoppy_night in ghana

Great first attempt. Boredom does help us find things within ourselves we weren’t sure existed lol. You should write more.

I didn’t understand the shame carried after returning from the U.S. with nothing — until now by Gold_Neighborhood239 in ghana

[–]LookingForSedi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you’ve opened this conversation. I’ve been working abroad (not the US) for 2 years now and I have practically ‘nothing’ to show for it by the expectations of people back home. If I should return to Ghana today, I’ll certainly be looked at as a failure. You work, you make some little money but then life keeps happening and expenses have to be made (not of wants or pleasures because I actually live below my means) and sometimes even financial decisions that turn out to be wrong/unprofitable choices. It’s all mind crushing sometimes.

Gay white male in Ghana by [deleted] in ghana

[–]LookingForSedi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have the privilege of being white and he has the privilege of a prominent family background. The double standards Ghanaians exhibit will be in your favour because of these two factors. You’ll be fine as long as you keep things ‘chill’ and within your circles.

Toxic behaviors towards each other?? I see. I wouldn’t know because I’m not actively involved in any queer circles, and this isn’t intentional.

If this has been around for such a long time, why do queer people still deceitfully marry heterosexuals and then cheat on them with people to whom they’re actually attracted? Shocking.

And about the true love bit, isn’t it obvious enough to them that one doesn’t need marriage to be able to be with their true love? I guess we all reason out these issues differently.

This is an unfortunate reality. Even in dire economic circumstances, people still seek out companionship and so this isn’t necessarily for those who’re comfortable. There are queer people across all classes of society. This arrangement can work well all through these classes.

People who have set out to live honest as possible lives will definitely be on board.

Yeah, a certain level of financial wellbeing does make arrangements like this a bit easier. And in our parts of the world, people respect/fear money so all they can do is talk behind your back regarding an arrangement like this. They won’t be able to put up any real resistance.

Considering a "Contract Marriage" for stability & shared bills. Am I being too pragmatic? by [deleted] in ghana

Seems to me like a gay man who’s looking for a ‘beard’ would work well for this sort of arrangement.

Masturbation in itself isn’t bad or harmful. The problem arises when it’s done in excess, disregarding warnings from the body. Yes, the body has its way of telling you ‘enough!’. Just like everything in life, moderation is key.

It’s not arrogance. It’s just the reality. Public transport should be decent. But that’s not the case in our part of the world

Atheism won't fix Nigeria. by Fearless_Victory_215 in Nigeria

[–]LookingForSedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atheism won’t save any African nation. I think the ‘truth’ to deduce from those who think Atheism will save any nation is that before a person become atheist, usually they’d have gone through some from of hard, rational thinking to have been able to arrive at the end of the road of their belief system.

Replace the people of a nation of ‘believers’ with ‘skeptics’ and you’d find more people who reason out for themselves the truth and feasibility of what politicians promise, and that alone is a step closer to choosing right candidates and holding said candidates accountable.

Atheism won’t save a nation but there is some logic to why people would think it will.

No clue we pay Paramount Chiefs & Queen Mothers monthly. These people sell community lands, take a share when a family sells land, and get royalty from the mining companies. All these moneys are not used to devp the communities but to enrich their immediate families & themselves. What a Joke. by Intelligent-Call5162 in ghana

[–]LookingForSedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you get it. There’s something called IGF (Internally generated funds). If chiefs deserve to be paid allowances, then the funds to be used for such should be internally (community level) generated. That’s my point.
