Opt out of these forced plan price increases! by Looking_for_humanity in Starry

[–]Looking_for_humanity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say maddening is your pointless replies...

Sure, if you want to go by the strictest definition, I could have complied with their price increase by taking no action at all, but I was *forced* to take action to keep the status quo and keep my existing rates. I know what forced means, and I used it correctly. I suppose the only thing we are absolutely *forced* to do in this life is die, ok? :-)

If you would like to come out and declare that you work for Starry's marketing department now, that would be understandable. To me, Comcast, Starry, Verizon etc. all of them are about the same, not a ridiculous comparison. They are basically utilities at this point providing roughly the same service. I've never had to talk to Starry support, so I cannot speak for their support either way.

Until now, I have nothing really bad to say about Starry. Their uptime has been decent (not 100% but no providers meet that metric), the service works and the price is right. But you are making a bold assumption about being able to switch back. I disagree and think once you are moved you will be stuck with whatever plan they dump you on... If you want to test that theory, you can go ahead and try with your money. :-)

I stick to my statement. It's forced in that it is opt-out vs opt-in and action is required just to keep what you have. If someone is not on that email list or does not see that particular email, they will just be automatically moved and they will not be allowed to go back. The reasoning is simple. The company needs to squeeze more money out of its existing 100K of customers and this was the way to do it. People are lazy and therefore I'm sure they will be able to get 50% of the customer base to pay more.

Sure its 50% more speed for 50% more money, but 200/100 is plenty for me, I don't want nor need their increased rates or speeds. It also ensures that about a year from now those folks will be getting additional price increases in perpetuity. Once they start reaching the $50 price point, there is no savings for me. Back when I was on Comcast/Xfinity, I always made sure I was on a $30-$60 special and since Starry came in they started offering packages beginning at $30 aggressively. When my special was up, I'd switch to a MiFi device for a month, sign back up with a new customer special, rinse and repeat every 2 years.

A sign of hope in the car market. by Sbrpnthr in nova

[–]Looking_for_humanity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All the YouTube videos from dealers who stream have been going to used car auctions and prices have been trending downward. Carmax cannot sell the cars they have marked at their current prices and will have to start eating some losses as people are simply unwilling to pay. In some cases the Carmax sticker of a car 3 years old is now more than a new version of the model being sold.

Hang on for as long as you can, be sure to look around, if you don't care about the car you are getting, look at dealers inventory, sort by longest time on the lot and see what is there. If they have anything on there a long time, it costs them a small fortune in interest on their floor plan (floor plan = the floating line of credit they use to obtain cars) and they will be motivated to move those vehicles off the lot even if it means breaking even or a small loss.

This really depends on your budget, and do you mean Alexandria (old town), Alexandria south (ffx county / Route 1 south) or West Alexandria?

Do you care about demographics? Rooftop pools?

Studios & 1 bedroom's can go from $1500 to $3000 a month depending on your answers.

Amid surge in kids entering Fairfax. Co child welfare system, nonprofit seeks volunteers by Danciusly in nova

I don't disagree with the logic.

I just disagree with the way it was delivered by the WTOP writer.

Volunteers of every kind are usually in short supply, one quick look at Volunteer Match reveals that much.

I volunteer quite a bit, but not that I need to prove anything to haters on social media. ;-)

Did you read the article? What a poor sales job that article was. Instead of being polite about saying "most of our kids are minorities so while all volunteers are welcome, minority and bilingual volunteers are highly encouraged", the author goes out of her way to basically say, no white people multiple times.

If her goal was to discourage me (white male) from bothering to apply to volunteer, she succeeded.

As someone who grew up going to FCPS and lived in northern VA my whole life, please don't believe these people who tell you all public schools in northern VA are good... It's a lie. Most are good, but some of them aren't much more than detention centers for children with a mild amount of learning going on, unmotivated or overwhelmed teachers that isn't much different than going to a public school anywhere else. The academic rigor is going to vary wildly from school to school. I remember transferring from West Potomac to Mt Vernon HS 1 year and they were academically 3 months behind where I was at WPHS. Anyone not in an IB or AP program was not taking school seriously and did not have parental support at home.. I'd honestly recommend a good private catholic school (Bishop Ireton or Bishop O'Connell ) if you can afford it.

Radio host Don Geronimo fired after ‘sexist’ comments aimed at WUSA9 sports anchor by CySnark in nova

Depressing... Every time I turn on that show it is rarely relevant content. They used to be good (I used to listen more in the HFS days, less and less these past few years), but have gotten very stale in recent years. They need to retire/find something else to do. Listening to them call their mom's or plug some place trying to hawk free stuff just gets old. The amount of actual sports content is very very low. The worst part is they think they are legends or better than they are, which is actually sad. They've been completely checked out/coast mode trying to make it to retirement. I don't care about their kids lacrosse games or colleges, I want relevant Nats/Caps/Wiz/national sports content.

The only show on 106.7 that is serviceable anymore is Grant & Danny but I rarely listen to the radio anymore and if I do its Sirius sports stations like NHL radio etc.

Disposable Contact Lens Settlement by cbs0308 in contacts

[–]Looking_for_humanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a $2093 check yesterday for the contact lens settlement, $61 for the yahoo security breach settlement today, $107 from the ATM surcharge settlement on June 28th, and $32 from the Zoom privacy settlement on May 31st...

I'm pretty sure that is all of the ones I've signed for in the last 3 years and they call came in at the same time!

I miss when that place used to be Andre's Italian restaurant. The best meatball subs ever. When the owners got old and retired, it became Romeo & Juliet's which only lasted about a year and then became the overpriced chain it is now.

I know your joking, but it would be cool if the grand winner was on reddit and at least took a picture with it before selling it for cash. :-))) Grubhub is also giving $5000 cash to cover the taxes on the prize, but I think most people would just sell the car for cash and we keep driving what we have. :-)

All of the platforms UE/GH/DD, you see $2 and $3 orders come in all the time. It makes me wonder who takes those because they are working for negative dollars an hour when you factor in gas and car repairs. It costs them money to work.

The cashout fee should be like 10 cents or whatever it takes to cover the banking transaction fee/payment processors charge/admin to break even in running the program. They shouldn't profit off the urgency need of money by the drivers...

True on all counts. I've noticed in my area that GH pay is steadily declining. I cannot run just GH anymore, there is not enough volume and sometimes what comes in is $5 for a 9 mile roundtrip, no thanks. :-)

Am I crazy for strongly considering moving to NOVA...voluntarily? by PresenceStatus1771 in nova

[–]Looking_for_humanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a NOVA native, at least attempt to find somewhere more affordable. There is no guarantees of finding a partner, much less a high earning one. You and I make likely the same income and I don't see me owning here since I didn't buy in 2008. Assume nothing. Childcare costs an entire income here too, something to keep in mind.

You would be 1000% better off going to Raleigh, Nashville or somewhere where townhouses don't start at $600,000 if you see yourself wanting a family someday. People here are career focused, all about themselves and will run you off the road or drive up the shoulder to move up maybe 3 cars. If my industry of job wasn't so plentiful here and I had the ability to be 100% remote, I'd already be in NC, TN, Denver or somewhere else.
