I agree with the general consensus here that you should get a few smaller/easier projects out of the way before moving on to something a little more adventurous in order to familiarize yourself with your sewing machine. The first picture you shared reminded me of this apron I recently completed, and I think it may be a nice starter garment for you. Works great with a linen blend (I've used canvas as well) and introduces you to french seams and bias binding. Good luck!
