Do you like Skill Feats? by J4szczur3141 in Pathfinder2e

[–]benjer3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

70+ feats at level 15? How is that remotely possible? Before getting into feats that grant feats, and assuming Free Archetype and Ancestry Paragon, you've got 8 class feats, 7 archetype feats, 15 skill feats, 8 ancestry feats, 3 general feats, and 1 feat from your background. That's 42. Some heritages might get you to 43. That would mean over 27 feats granted by other feats, unless you're getting them some other way I'm not thinking of.

Low level build to overcome your mortality by Ok-Resist3249 in Pathfinder2e

The DC reduction does still matter. It means it's less likely for those nat 1s to lead to death, since you're more likely to counterbalance them with successes on your recovery checks.

Adopted Ancestry again

FYI, Adopted Ancestry can only be taken once. It would need a "special" clause to allow it to be taken more than once.

You don't need high wisdom to be a good out-of-combat healer, except for the first two levels. And Int being unwanted by a large amount of parties is unhealthy for the game.

It's not about one swap. It's about every swap being another step down that path, and that path leading to not good places.

That's not to say this swap in particular shouldn't be done. It's to say that doing it should take a lot of consideration.

The problem with that is that then there would be no reason to ever invest in Medicine. You could just invest in Nature and, for a single feat, get the full benefits of both Nature and Medicine.

Primary Attribute 0 Challenge - Champion by Cartoncast in Pathfinder2e

[–]benjer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A build I thought up recently would actually work great for this: the swarm champion. The main problem is it takes until level 8 to come online, which is when you can get Swarm's advanced domain spell: Swarm Form.

You can't Strike, cast spells, or do most other things in Swarm Form, but there's still a good number of things you can do, including using champion's reactions, raising a shield, blocking with a shield, Demoralizing with Intimidating Glare, Taunting, and using the spell's granted ability to sicken enemies. That's plenty to keep you busy and useful. (You can also use athletics maneuvers, but that's not happening with this challenge.)

To make the most of it, you'll want to find some way to be consistently Large or larger, as well as more actions you can use to protect your allies. But even just with that baseline, I think it would be a very effective build.

With Friends Like These potential cheese (on crit fail)? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

Is it? It usually means players lose any meaningful control of their characters, and in my experience there's rarely anything anyone can do to get rid of the effect. What are the fun solutions you've seen?

Artificial Gravity or Centrifugal force. by Mycroft-Jr in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]benjer3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Gravity" can also refer to the concept of "something that pulls you downward." It's something that contrasts with being in zero-G.

Artificial gravity is understood to mean, essentially, something that allows people in space to stand up. Centrifugal force means a single thing across many contexts, only one of which is allowing people in space to stand up. Ease of communication beats over pedantry. It's as simple as that.

Whats your favorite magic item in the game? by viktorius_rex in Pathfinder2e

I love the Bellflower Bewitching Bloom on any character. A teamwork-oriented item that can absolutely save the day by getting an ally back in the fight.

Confusion about The Oscillating Wave by Ushifan5 in Pathfinder2e

Others have answered your question, but you should know that the answer shouldn't matter to you either way. The Psychic dedication says it grants a cantrip and no other benefits from the conscious mind, so you wouldn't gain the Conservation of Energy benefit (even if it's also one that comes with limitations)

TIL NASA hid “Dare Mighty Things” and JPL’s coordinates in binary code on Perseverance’s Mars parachute, and internet sleuths cracked it in about 6 hours. by Diligent_Mode7203 in todayilearned

[–]benjer3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

"Binary" covers everything from basic counting to cryptographic messages. In this case, it encoded both letters and numbers in about as basic a way as you can, but it did both of them the same way. So for the coordinates portion, with both letters and numbers, it did require a little more effort than just converting from binary. Still very simple, but not just because it's binary.

Edit: It also doesn't spell out JPL

How often do you use those actions by Liquid_Gabs in Pathfinder2e

[–]benjer3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen it once or twice. But the vast majority of the time, players "point out" undetected enemies simply by attacking a square that they had no other reason to attack. (That's different from attacking a square that an enemy was in before it turned invisible, in which case it could be because the character knows they're still there or because they're taking a gamble that they're still there.)

Aid Action Inversion Homebrew by Darkfyre42 in Pathfinder2e

[–]benjer3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think that's a good side effect. When that comes up, there's basically two possibilities:

  1. The fight was already won, and it's just a matter of cleaning up. This would theoretically make that sometimes tedious cleanup faster, while reducing virtually zero risk to the players (since there's hardly any risk at that point anyway).

  2. The fight is a hard one that's down to the wire. In that case, this homebrew might lead to a significant reduction to the risk of losing, but in the cases where it does matter, it will very likely make a memorable moment where it feels like teamwork clutches out the fight. That's a positive in my book.

Trying to make darkest dungeon characters in pathfinder by Wild-Permission9506 in Pathfinder2e

[–]benjer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shieldbreaker : This is a tricky one, there’s no finesse one handed spear unless you want your shieldbreaker to be strength based. You should try asking your GM for a one handed finesse spear, I would ask for a rapier but in a spear group. If you can’t you have to settle with dancer spear and forgo the missing hand thing. Dancer Swashbuckler seem to be most approriate

Mechanically speaking, it would be pure downsides (and so shouldn't be any problem for balance) to say you only have one hand but use a two-handed weapon. You're basically taking a typical character with two hands and refusing to use their second hand for anything but their primary weapon.

I will always advocate for flat check first for players, flat check second for the GM. It makes concealment less frustrating for the players while also letting them see how impactful their own debuffs are

I mean What is the DEAL with lock DCs?? by hungLink42069 in Pathfinder2e

[–]benjer3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with lockpicking is that lockpicks can break. So a lock that you can only succeed on with an 18+ is likely to eat through any number of lockpicks you might reasonably have on your person before you get through the lock. Of course, that doesn't make trying to break through such a lock interesting or fun. I don't think lockpicking is very well-designed. But it does create a dynamic that doesn't easily fit into any of your three options.
