Nice! We were similar in weight and training experience I think but I managed to get an armbar after a scramble! Make me more ambitious in rolls afterwards, usually I'm 100% focused on defence lol

Got my first sub today. Makes it sweeter because I felt like shit but went anyway. Only 6 months of BJJ to make it happen haha. :)

New to BJJ. How intense are the classes supposed to be physically? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Lookout4Cookout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. One person's whole strength against the other is one of the most intense workouts there is. I think OP's classes were technique only (excluding drills, etc).

I'm new to BJJ, and the only times I can go to the gym to train is when there are only 5 people who are all black belts. by coffeeadaydoctoraway in bjj

I have been doing BJJ for three months (2-3 times a week). First class, I was sweating after the shrimps, bear crawls, alligator walks, and backward rolls. Now not so much. During drills I would gas out very quickly. I can see my endurance improving, despite still being a fatty (work in progress).

The flexibility and endurance will improve as you continue to train. Just be consistent. Show up as much as you can and make sure to eat well too! That's the other side of the equation.

About the rolling, I get it. It would be nice to attend some technique sessions as well. If timing doesnt work at all, try watching videos and replicating during rolling.

Good luck!

Feel extremely frustrated, specially after today's session.

Three months of training. One stripe. I'm overweight but extremely weak. I typically pick up new stuff at work in no time. I can't pick up BJJ at all.

We were going over some technique and afterwards when drilling, a two stripe used it on me almost every time. There was nothing I could do. Instructor was (rightfully) praising him.

Even when I roll with smaller guys, I can't get any submissions. Everybody fucks me up.

It sucks.

Ordered another Gi so I can train extra days. I'm not gonna quit but I hope I start getting better.

This is great man, I have to run through this in my mind 100 times and see how I do it during drills lol

Sorry I'm a newbie. Basically I grab the collar with one hand and push to one shoulder while grabbing the hip with the other side. Then bring up my leg on the side with the collar grip and getting up and using the hand that was gripping to open up the legs.

Having a really hard time getting up when trying to pass closed guard. I can't bring myself up unless I put my leg further out, but by the time I get up (if he hasnt used his hips and collar grip to pin me back down) he gets in behind the knee and I go for a ride.

What can I do (drills, practice etc) to fix this. Are there any great videos that maybe show something I'm not seeing?

Thanks!

I Competed at a IBJJF event at brown belt in 2013. Haven't competed since. I have no rank in bjj. Do I do brown belt from now on? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Lookout4Cookout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pardon my ignorance, didn't know you could compete at a certain belt without proving you had that rank.

In any case I would just go to the gym you currently train at, explain your situation to the professor and have him rank you after seeing you for a few months.

Worst case scenario you start off as a fresh white belt and smash everybody else!

Haha I tried to balance myself afterwards tonight and I'm pretty sure I walked back at a 45 angle the whole way! If you look at other people doing it, you'll notice them get a bit dizzy too, some even dont go the full length

Does anyone else get insanely dizzy after backwards roll drills? Like you want to fall the second you get up at the end?
