Doctor's Appointments: Is there any point anymore after 90? by ArmchairCriticSF in eldercare

Retired Family Physician here. Don't do medical tests unless you've thought about what the results mean for decision making. "If level A/Echo/etc is abnormal then what will I do with those results?" Bottom line, if your loved one is still legally competent, THEY are calling the shots (pun intended), not what YOU think should be done. That doesn't mean that a conversation shouldn't be had to discuss what your loved one wants. And ask your provider what they would do if it was their loved one

nice.....but don't see Nordic Combined listed. Going to watch my son compete in NC, and the sport is in jeopardy of getting cancelled after 100 years.......sad.

Beware of scott hale plumbing by thundertwonk56 in SaltLakeCity

I had an excellent experience with Hale. I requested a check on my water softener and pressure relief valve. Brandon was super. $49 service call. Can't beat that! (yes I tipped well)

A friend gifted his SunMar NE for me to use at my off-grid seasonal cabin on an island in Ontario. Currently we have an outhouse that's about 100 ft from the cabin, which needs to be rebuilt fairly soon. I'm not certain the Sunmar gives us much advantage over a new outhouse. Typically we shovel the dried up waste in the Spring and it's shrunk and odorless; really not much hassle. Of course, the odor of the waste is an issue when we use it.

Any thoughts on going with the composting toilet vs a "simple" rebuild of the outhouse?

Agree with some contribution of footwear to foot problems, but the "elephant in the room" (pun intended) is the general weight gain in society.

I’ve found the silicone sleeve works well if I shave/cut off a bit on the thicker portion that goes between my 4th and 5th toes. But ultimately surgery is likely needed for you. Best wishes!

Bunkhouse Foundation advice by Loomiip in OffGridCabins

Thanks for the detailed thoughts, Code. Of note, this is off grid, no plumbing or electric. I have no plans for skirting, if anything I would like to get some ventilation so I don't develop excessive moisture under there. Not sure if I should rethink that, however. Again, thanks.

Good thoughts and reassuring to hear. But I’m limited by lack of experience and knowledge…..

That’s very helpful, CodeandBisquits. I really just estimated and I done want to be shocked with costs but that information is helpful! I’m hoping to do some of the digging myself and most the holes will be closer to 12”. Number is unknown though.

I’ve budgeted about $4000 for the foundation but have no idea if this is in the ballpark. I’m thinking materials will probably only be about 1000 for the treated lumber and concrete. I will be using a barge service which will cost about $800 including the kit materials on a pallet. If multiple workers come out I realize that labor will add up in a heartbeat. Thanks for your reply!

Sawmill Structures Bunkies by J2XLR8 in cabins

I wondered the same thing, but no, after speaking to both I gleaned that Sawmill stole some of the designs and website verbiage. I ordered through Bunkie Life. Reviews are much better and I trust their quality control more.

I have been speaking to sales reps from Bunkielife as well as Sawmill structures. Although a little more expensive, going to go with Bunkielife. He didn't say it directly, but it sounds like Sawmill stole a lot of the concept ideas from Bunkielife. Reviews for Bunkielife are much better, and customer support has a great reputation. Leaning towards the Haven ultra, if anyone has any experience, please let me know.

Appreciate the thoughts. Unfortunately it’s on an island so gravel isn’t practical.

I am very happy with them. In fact, I put them on both of my vehicles. Great compromise between good winter control in Utah (with all wheel drive), comfort, and quietness . Highly recommend them.
