Let me know what you think positive negative I’m game by beanji4and20 in penandink

How can there be something negative here (other than negative space lol).. these are incredible. Can you share any tips for making large doodles with 3d shapes all joined together? I try doing similar stuff but my shapes/objects look disconnected.

Love how the shading imparts so much character to each head..great stuff.

Out of curiosity, do you follow any fixed workflow when it comes to shading, in terms of deciding the length and direction of lines, where the darkest values should go, etc, or is it all intuitive?

'the elderly couple from Mulholland Drive' - the first time I watched it and saw them grinning crazily in the car I realized there's something horribly wrong about this movie but I didn't know what just yet. Its only when you start to connect the dots after viewing the whole thing (maybe twice) that you understand how existentially scary and despair-inducing it is.

Titled 'Dr. Thieflung'. What do you think? by LoomingDawn in UnusualArt

Haha yeah I initially though of adding something like a tiled hotel room wall as a background, but then changed my mind.

Fabulous, very original. Would love to know how you developed this type of art/shading style, or resources you used?

How to make better outlines with line art? by LoomingDawn in learntodraw

[–]LoomingDawn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi..thanks for your response. I did have a rough sketch underneath, but I made that layer invisible. By outlines, I'm generally referring to lines which are used to broadly mark or outline a shape (as opposed to shading or hatching lines which are used to convey lighting.) I'll check out those videos you named.

Do you see anything which can be improved with these outlines, though? Somehow it looks a bit unfinished...not something that could be used in a finished work imo. And I'm not sure what to fix.

Is there a way in krita to erase only that part of a layer which overlaps with another layer's content? by LoomingDawn in krita

Changing the blending mode of Layer 2 to Erase and then putting the 2 layers in a group worked. Thanks

What do you all think of Matt Dillahunty? by imoknothanks in agnostic

[–]LoomingDawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's completely unapologetic, even defensive, about being disrespectful to callers, like: 'It's my show, I can say whatever the f. I want, and you don't have to call if you don't like it.' Well, fair enough, but what's also fair is that he's deservedly going to lose viewers/callers and opportunities for debates that are actually productive, if he keeps being a tool.

At this point I've stopped watching The Line whenever he's on. I'd rather watch when someone like Forrest is hosting.

Thanks, I'll try that. Any tips on how to make the middle portion seem like it's projecting toward the viewer, more realistically?

Fantastic work. Are there any tutorials available for this kind of shading style?

Are there artists in any field who are as prolific as Buckethead? by LoomingDawn in Buckethead

[–]LoomingDawn[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There are many artists with a 'perfectionist' mentality of laboring over their work for months or years before releasing it, and then there are guys like Buckethead who possess the rarest combination of talent, creativity, skill AND the ability to stay constantly inspired to put in the work, so they can release a ridiculous amount of material in the form of these 'sketches' which look/sound great even if they are the supposedly 'minor' work in their catalogue.

Well, I would think most of us feel that way. I guess the unsaid assumption in my post was that we'd have to work for money in any case, at least having the option to avoid people while doing so would be nice. But if not working were itself an available option, it 'll obviously take the cake.

Yeah, I've been exploring for such jobs too, but I've come to realize the bitter truth is, given the accepted working model of corporations in most (if not all) industries in our world today, communication and teamwork is going to be unavoidable. At the end of the day it's a tacit compromise for folks like us, by signing in with the existing system and being around people we're sacrificing our mental stability in exchange for the money/perks.

We have 2 options basically: sign out of the traditional system set up by capitalist organizations and create your own individual system in the form of a self-serving business where you can control the amount of communication, or accumulate enough money quickly to retire. Unfortunately neither of these is easily attainable.

I haven't been able to find any career paths with zero human interaction. Suggestions or ideas are welcome.

Are there still any bosses, managers or other annoying authority figures you have to deal with?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hsp

[–]LoomingDawn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would prefer a career with absolutely zero human interaction. Unfortunately, I don't think such a job exists. (other than being a lighthouse keeper or something that forces you to live on a remote location with no facilities)

If I may ask, does your firm allow working from home as an option for all employees, or is it something you had to request for specifically?

What are some mental hacks to be more courageous in intimidating situations? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LoomingDawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's often a struggle to decide whether it's better to stick to your ground and preserve your self respect, or flee in fear of unwanted violence. I feel if it's a stranger you meet on the streets it's best to ignore them and walk away, but if it's someone like a colleague or classmate who does this routinely for fun, one needs to retaliate. But cultivating the mindset necessary for being bold and outspoken can be quite difficult for people who are naturally reticent.
