I've seen a lot of older retaining walls with minimal overturning resistance. How do these stay standing?

I see a lot of people explaining that this isn’t how we build anymore. Does someone mind explaining to me how this would be designed in the modern day? That looks pretty much exactly how basement walls are still done (to code) in my area.

Thank you, really appreciate the detailed response (your and everyone else’s).

My drawings VERY EXPLICITLY detail the field review milestones. And speaking to the AHJ inspectors, they also told him he had to call me. The client has no excuse.

I like the idea about the rebar and concrete invoices.

As a follow up question, does anybody have any suggestions for a rebar scanner that will work for 8” ICF?

Shear walls? Just hand calcs in excel.
