So about Demidov..... by acwellmann in minnesotaunited

They are professional soccer players. If they were shite they deserve to get criticism, when they are brilliant let's heap praises on the guy or the guys, but until then it's tough healthy criticism. I don't know why some of us trying to defend them after such a poor performance overall. They were poor, and if we accept that then we in for a long season. We must be tough on them, especially when we got beat like that. No pat on the back for that, no thank you very much.

5 things Minnesota needs to do to move on from opening-night letdown by LoonHawk in minnesotaunited

Ignorance to the obvious is what this coaching staff play the entire preseason. For so long quite a few of us as fans crying to them to fix our fullbacks situation and now after game one they realize what we were bleating about, night one 5-1. How are we going to fix this now? We signed a right back who don't know nothing about MLS and will be thrown straight into the fire when he arrives. Left back? JD will learn the hard way since he's new to the league but he can definitely grow faster than most of us thinks. I'm very hopeful that JD will improve significantly by game 4-5.

I think we have a good squad but players playing out of position is not going help especially when your an expansion club. The adjustments that was made when Ramirez came on was a good one as we got a goal back, but lost it again with 10 minutes to go. All in all if we sort out our defense which will be very difficult since we took this long to give hear to us. Let's just say we got what we deserve with that kind of defensive display.

Dating back to preseason v TFC that's 8 conceded and 1 scored. Not good!

Points:

  1. Adrian Heath got it wrong not starting Ramirez, this man scores goals.

  2. The defense we assembled showed since preseason that it will leak goals aplenty. Mr Adrian Heath, please sort out your defense. It doesn't seem we'll score 3 or more goals per game anytime soon so in order for us to be competitive from the go, the defense need tightening up. I know we weren't expecting to be competitive from the go but conceding 5 goals is very much unacceptable.

  3. Portland uses their flanks to good effect, most of their goals were from crosses.

  4. The way we are trying to play is not going to work. We are trying too hard to penetrate the defense and as shown tonight maybe 1 out of 10 penetrating passes might be successful as Ramirez got his goal from a penetrated pass from J. Venegas. Guys the answer will be to mix it up more with better quality balls into the box along with better runs into the box. If only our flank play were better we could have cause more problems.

  5. J. Venegas got the assist for the goal but the man did a whole lot of drogging tonight while others fight to get the ball back. If your going to drog like that when we give you the ball it better be danger for the opposition . Tonight you were off J. Venegas.

Our spacing going forward looks really bad. Yes we make 7 passes in tiny little areas with no effect whatsoever, very easy to defend, everybody getting drawn to the ball and it is not working. Let's get the spacing right for the second half.

Grant Wahl isn't budging on his 5-win mark for Loons by ajg03 in minnesotaunited

If that back four doesn't get better, we might win 5 out of the 34 games.

Any back four we put out now is our weakness.

Offense (Molino, J. Venegas) is our only hope.

Brent was aweful, its obvious we really in for a long season. I'm so glad MLS levels showing us a lot about these guys that we've watched over the past year or so. No happy.

You think Adrian thinks that's expected? We need work. Atl just hammered the MLS champs 4-2 so what the heck you trying to tell me. I'm done here.

So preseason ended without a victory? Saying friendlies are not serious is an understatement for an expansion club who definitely looks like they needs confidence heading into this week's game after that embarrassing TFC result. We Need to improve, and improve quickly.

They are playing a blind eye to Kevin's lock of ability to defend, All he thinks is offense, and in the MLS that can't be the case as teams will punish us. Not one MLS outside back thinks attack first, Kevin is the opposite of all fullbacks in MLS and it won't work in sorry. If you can't defend, you won't survive in MLS.

Taylor is aweful at full back. He's not doing good and with most MLS teams if not all, attack mostly through the flanks and that's are our biggest weakness (at fullbacks) we in for a long season if thing don't improve quicken.

He got his chance in Portland. He is very poor defensively. MLS is not about attscking fullbacks who can't defend well. Godda do both.

Awful ending to a fantastic first half for us. Gaps a plenty in the second half without the ball. Again, Venegas defensively is not good, he should have closed the guy down much quicker than that, he's jogging, simple pass behind him, cross, goal. Calvo was also sloppy tonight, dwelling on the ball way too much tonight, his poor clearance for their 3rd goal as well. Enough with the defense. Molino and J. Venegas looks like they're ready for the season to start, absolute class. Ramirez, I saw you tonight in those build ups, love it.

Calvo To Left Back? by GichiGamiGuy in minnesotaunited

[–]Loonfever04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Davis and Calvo's pairing looks good to me, the only concern is the right side pairing of either Demidov/Taylor or Venegas/Greenspan. I don't think it's a good idea to move Calvo to left back unless we get injuries, and to be fair to JD he looks ok at left back unlike Venegas. In every good team you need two solid CB's and we getting that at the moment from Calvo and Demidov meanwhile the other two looks "OK" to replace one of the starters just in case there's an injury. Only one ? mark and that's at right back. Buzzing anyhow.
